In 2008, St John conducted the first rigorous population based blindness survey in the OPT (Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness, Chiang F, et al) ,[object Object],[object Object]

‘ Determinants of diabetic eye complications among St. John Eye Hospital Community Clinics attendants’ (Nasrallah Khalilia, 2009) ,[object Object],[object Object]

Doctors survey, 51 of 69 ophthalmologists (response rate of 74%) ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

There appears to be a north south divide in terms of services
Commonest reason for delay in receiving laser: ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

The 2 nd component was a patient survey of a total of 40 patients (20 patients having laser and 20 VR surgical patients) ,[object Object],[object Object]
“ What is your opinion about the care you received at St. John Eye Hospital?‟ ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]
Patients were asked if they had problems causing delay in treatment? ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]
It was common for patients to receive both positive and negative views from relatives, friends, fellow-patients and doctors. ,[object Object],[object Object]
3 rd component was a LASER Audit of 1 months work from 2008 (67 eyes of 40 patients) ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]
We compared our results with the Uk’s National Diabetic Retinopathy Laser Audit (1999) ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]
Vitrectomy Audit, for a 12 month period, 34 eyes of 19 patients (2006) ,[object Object],[object Object]
We compared this audit to a in India (Erakyun and Egrilmez) ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]
Last component was a series of interviews with Key Professionals ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]
