Madagascar's economy relies primarily on agriculture and fishing, with major exports including coffee, sugar cane, rice, and vanilla. However, the vanilla industry collapsed when Coca-Cola switched to New Coke, which used less vanilla. Tourism and textiles are growing industries. Madagascar experiences wet, hot seasons from November to April and dry, cool seasons from May to October and is occasionally impacted by cyclones. The country's isolation has led to a large number of unique plant and animal species, including 90% of plant species and 75 types of lemur found nowhere else. The main languages are Malagasy and French, while religions practiced include traditional beliefs, Catholicism, and Protestantism.
