The Heublin Tower is a 165-foot tower located in Talcott Mountain State Park in Simsbury, CT. It was originally built in 1914 as a summer home for Gilbert Heublin and offers 360-degree views of over 1,200 square miles on a clear day. Visitors can hike the 1.25 mile Tower Trail to reach the observation tower. The tower also contains the Eisenhower Chair where Dwight D. Eisenhower decided to run for U.S. President in 1952 while attending a party there.

Located in Talcott Mountain Park in Simsbury, CT, the Heublin Tower stands 165 feet tall
atop Talcott Mountain and gives you views for miles and miles of the Farmington Valley area.
Originally built as Gilbert Heublin’s summer home, the building was designed by Smith and
Bassette and was built by T.R. Fox and Son in 1914.

The only way to the tower is by
hiking the 1.25 mile Tower Trail.
There are several different paths, all
which get you to the tower and you
can choose depending how
adventurous you are feeling. No
matter what you get great exercise
and beautiful views, especially in
the fall when the foliage paints the
land.
4. Heublin FamilyHeublin Family
The Heublin family left Germany and
came to settle in Hartford, CT where they
found success in their hotel and restaurant;
followed by importing and exporting food and
liquor and coming up with the original
premixed cocktail to hit the international
market. A.1. Steak Sauce and Smirnoff Vodka
were products of the enterprise.
5. The Eisenhower ChairThe Eisenhower Chair
In May 1950, Dwight D. Eisenhower
attended a party hosted for him at the
tower and on this visit he wound up
being pressured into running for the
1952 presidency. The wood and blue
leather chair that he sat in while making
this decision sits in the tower today and
is know as “The Eisenhower Chair”.

From the observation tower, you hover 1000 feet up on Taclott
Mountain’s summit. The 360 degree view is breathtaking and on a
clear day can see an estimated 1,200 sq miles of landscape.

From the south side of the tower you can
see Talcott Mountain Science Center,
the WTIC radio towers, Sleeping Giant
State Park, Totoket Mountain and others.

Western views include mountains with
some pretty silly names, including
zinio, sugarloaf and hedgehog
mountain. You can also find Mohawk,
Round and Bear Mountain on this side
