nation.
TigerDirect will keep one store open in Miami, a spokesman from the company confirmed with the
South Florida Business Journal on Friday.
The Miami-based electronics retailer will permanently close 31 of its 34 stores nationwide as it
begins to focus on online and direct business-to-business sales, said TigerDirect Spokesman Mike
Smargiassi. The closures will cut 1,200 jobs nationwide, including close to 200 jobs across six stores
in South Florida. TigerDirect employs about 4,000 workers across the U.S.
South Florida's remaining TigerDirect store is at 7795 W. Flagler St. in Miami. Other locations in
Palm Beach and Broward counties are expected to close by the end of the second quarter with the
rest of the brand's stores across the nation.
Locations of the stores closing in South Florida:
17641 Biscayne Blvd. in Aventura
12200 N. Kendall Drive in Miami
1835 W. Hillsboro Blvd. in Deerfield Beach
1740 N. Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale
10121 Pines Blvd. in Pembroke Pines
3942 Northlake Blvd. in Palm Beach
"This was a difficult decision, but one that reflects the opportunity we see in the B2B marketplace as
well as the realities of how the consumer market has changed over the past few years," said Richard
Leeds, Systemax chairman and CEO in an earnings release in which the closures were announced.
"It will allow us to place additional resources behind our B2B growth initiatives and will be accretive
to our financial performance after one-time costs. We expect this strategic realignment to result in a
more streamlined and focused operating platform."
TigerDirect is owned by Systemax. The New York-based company's other brands include Global
Industrial, MISCO and Inmac Wstore.
