Work | High Demand Engineering Jobs — Canada
Engineering jobs are needed across Canada
“Engineers are sought-after across Canada,” says contributing writer at CanadianImigration.ca, Mark Swartz, “Engineers
are needed to design and maintain the equipment and processes that help us progress.”
In Canada, there are currently three areas of engineering where there is the most demand: Oil and Gas Extraction,
Mining and Environment. Within these three categories we’ve listed the most high demand engineering jobs.
Oil and Gas Extraction
Geotechnical Design Engineer
Responsible for the design and implementation of earthwork structure construction.
Also in charge of design project management
Average yearly salary = $62,986* (varies by location and level of experience)
Petroleum Engineer
In charge of aiding in the recovery of gas and oil by making recommendations on the placement of drilling.
2. Responsibilities include: preparing drilling, testing and recovery plans, supporting technical operations and
providing guidance on troubleshooting.
Average yearly salary = $86,435*
Mechanical Engineer (Oil and Gas)
Guarantees that the equipment used to extract gas and oil is properly designed and maintained.
Projects can include froth treatment, tailings transfer at treatment plants, hydrogen sulfide (h2s) stripping and
debottlenecking.
Average yearly salary = $67,980*
Mining
Project Engineer-Mining Jobs
Provides detailed design engineering for the drawing of and the specifications for material handling systems,
pumping/piping systems, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, mine ventilation systems, industrial HVAC and
hoisting systems, and related mine infrastructure.
Average yearly salary = $73,011* (based on general project engineering jobs, i.e. salary not specific to mining)
Mining Engineer
Responsible for the production of feasibility assessments for open pit or underground mining.
Operates mining software to plan digs and takes responsibility for structural integrity and maximum efficiency of
extraction.
Average yearly salary = $78,605*
Electrical Engineer-Mining Jobs
Ensures the power distribution in buildings, sub-structures, electrical devices, communication equipment, electronic
controls and automated equipment.
Average yearly salary = $64,089* (based on general electrical engineering jobs i.e salary not specific to mining)
Environmental
3. An environmental engineer tests the water
Environmental Engineer
Conducts environmental impact studies
Devises carbon-footprint reducing plans and processes that will reduce pollutants and create recycling
opportunities while also keeping in mind spec and cost restraints.
Average yearly salary = $58,775*
Civil Engineer-Leed/Green Building
Reduces energy use and increases efficiencies by consolidating green building principles into the design of new
buildings and other related construction projects.
Average yearly salary = $61,323* (salary not specific to Leed/Green Building)
Environmental Remediation Engineer
