A study suggests that many hospitals aren't using Facebook to their advantage, particularly in boosting their relationships with patients and communities or building their brands. Of the 120 facilities studied, less than 40% posted on their Facebook pages daily and about 80% failed to utilize the social media site's discussion board. The winning team will create a predictive algorithm that can identify patients who are at risk for hospital admissions. Once known, health care providers can develop new care plans and strategies to reach patients before emergencies occur, thereby reducing the number of unnecessary hospitalizations. Heritage Provider Network, 3/11<br />The RAND Corporation studied more than 800,000 families and found that when they moved to (health) plans with deductibles over $1,000, health spending dropped an average of 14%. But the study also found that those families cut back on things like childhood immunizations, cancer screenings and diabetes tests. Childhood vaccination rates among families in traditional plans rose, while they dropped among those in the high-deductible plans.
