Sailor in the Spotlight 6
1. Misawa sailors in the spotlight
NAF Misawa Sailors of the Quarter Oct-Dec 2010
This edition of Misawaโs Sailor in the Spotlight focus-
es on three shipmates who were selected as Naval
Air Facility Misawaโs (NAFM) Sailors of the Quarter
for fourth quarter.
Personnel Specialist 1st Class Katelyn Delaney was
selected as Senior Sailor of the Quarter.
Delaney, a Chicago native, is actively involved in
the command both on and off duty. As an assistant
command fitness leader, she is a driving force behind
the success of NAFMโs fitness program. She is the
supervisor for a team at Personnel Support Detach-
ment (PSD) Misawa that is responsible for ensuring
all pay and allowances for 5 tenant commands are
processed in a timely manner.
Her efforts in the community helped to bring holiday cheer to those around her. She was actively involved in the base toy drive, and
coordinated the distribution of donated toys to junior service members and their families onboard Misawa Air Base. Delaney helped
facilitate the annual angel tree toy drive. This annual event brought Christmas presents to the children at the Bikuo-en Orphanage.
โPetty Officer Delany was a top performer during the fourth quarter and that led to her selection as the Senior Sailor of the Quarter,โ
Senior Chief Personnel Specialist Danielle Gunsett, PSD Misawa officer in charge said.
โIt felt great to be selected as the Sailor of the Quarter,โ Delaney said.
Interior Communications Electrician 2nd Class Cecilia Mang was selected as Junior Sailor of the Quarter.
Mang, 32, has made an immediate impact on the command since checking on board February 2010. She is the fund raising chair-
man for the Naval Air Family Readiness Group (NAFRG) where she helped to raise more than $1,200, and played an intragal role in
planning the NAFM Christmas party and childrenโs Christmas party.
A native of Yangon, Burma, Mang is an avid volunteer. She participated in the Bikuo-en Orphanage Halloween party, helped design
and fabricate the NAFM Christmas card, and helped the Boy Scout with their Christmas tree sale.
โMang hit the floor running as soon as she checked onboard,โ said Aviation Boatswains Mate (Handling) 1st Class Steven DeMay,
Mangโs leading petty officer. โShe has been heavily involved in the command since day one, and sets the example for others to follow
both on and off duty.โ
โIt is an honor to be selected as the Junior Sailor of the Quarter,โ said Mang, who joined the Navy in May 2004. โI could not have
done this without the support of my chain of command.โ
Aviation Maintenance Administrationman 3rd Class William Zwicker was selected as Blue Jacket of the Quarter.
Zwicker, 31, has accomplished a lot during his short time on board. Since reporting June, 2010, he solely maintained ten local aircraft
and financial reports covering over 75 flight hours and $52,000 with no discrepancies.
A native of Suwanee Ga. Zwicker is actively involved in the command and community. Zwicker volunteered more than 20 hours on
the Navy Ball committee helping to ensure the event was a success. He is involved in the NAFRG and is an assistant troop leader for
Misawa Girl Scout Troop 46.
โI constantly strive to execute my job well and to do my part to keep the command mission ready,โ said Zwicker. โI could not have
done this without my chain of command, and the advice of my two mentors Navy Counselor 1st Class Todd Wean, and Aviation Boat-
swains Mate (Handling) First Class Nathan Hart.โ
โSince Zwicker has arrived, he has consistently performed at a level well above his pay grade,โ said Hart, Zwickers leading petty of-
ficer.
