HOW TO READ?
HOW TO READ?
 There is a difference
between reading for
understanding and
reading for information.
How you read makes a
massive difference to
knowledge accumulation.
 Reading for information is
just like reading
newspaper. This type of
reading is not going to
give you an edge, make
you better at your job or
allow you to grow with
rich knowledge.
The Four Levels of Reading by Mortimer J Adler.
 Elementary reading.
 Inspectional reading.
 Analytical reading.
 Syntopical reading.
HOW TO READ?
The Four Levels of Reading by
Mortimer J Adler
 1. Elementary reading:
Already taught in elementary
schools.
 2. Inspectional reading:
Inspectional reading gives you
the gist of things, the author
conveys. It allows you to look
at the author’s blueprint and
evaluate the merits of a deeper
reading experience.
 3. Analytical reading:
Analytical reading is a
thorough reading. At some
point of time, you start to
engage your mind and dig into
the subject matter.
 4. Syntopical reading: This
is also known as comparative
reading. This involves reading
many books on the same
subject, and comparing and
contrasting ideas, vocabulary
and arguments.

THE ART OF COMMUNICATION
 The art of communication is your ability to listen and
deliver information in a clear and accurate way.
 The process of communication has multiple barriers.
 The way you are able to interpret your emotions into
words is an art of communication.
THE ART OF COMMUNICATION
COMMUNICATION BARRIERS
COMMUNICATION BARRIERS
TWO MAIN TYPES OF
COMMUNICATION
VERBAL COMMUNICATION
 Words are very important.
 Words are very powerful
when used correctly.
 Misuse of words may lead
to the information of a
negative correlation and
weakens the person’s
message.
VERBAL COMMUNICATION
 Choosing an appropriate
vocabulary usually reveals
your level of language
proficiency. According to
the target audience you
choose your vocabulary.
Communicating with
friends you may use more
colloquial language.
VERBAL COMMUNICATION
 Avoid monotony when
delivering a speech,
which may cause un-
interest among the
listeners. To capture the
attention as well to the
context change your tone
accordingly.
VERBAL COMMUNICATION
 The speed of your speech
tells others a lot.
Speaking slowly
communicates
thoughtfulness and
speaking fast
communicates you are
excited, encouraging your
audience to be interested
in the topic.
VERBAL COMMUNICATION
 If you can control your
emotions, you will be an
extremely effective
communicator.
VERBAL COMMUNICATION
 This ensures that you are
speaking clearly making
communications easier.
NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION
NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION
 Speaking posture:
Changing body position
during presentation can
have a huge effect on the
nature of the message
being sent across. (You
might have observed
various leaders / speakers
postures).
NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION
 Eyes: Eyes are the
windows to the soul.
Looking into the eyes
communicate caring. On
the other hand it shows
the sign of lack of
interest.
NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION
 Arms: Expanding your
arms helps you appear
larger in an attempt to
reach out the audience.
Hiding your arms give the
listener an expression of
dishonesty.
NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION
 Hands: Dynamic
movement of your hands
will keep the audience
engaged and interested
in what you say.
GOOD LISTENER
 Be a good listener.
 Set aside your judgments.
 Have positive attitude.
 Be self confident.

style for any role.

with yourself, you will be able
to communicate outwardly
with more clarity. The way in is
the way out.” - TICH NHAT
HANAH - Zen Master, A
Vietnamese Buddhist monk.

highly adaptable, as
priorities in this discipline
shift quickly.

the rapid pace of change.

are often rooted in the
art of persuasion and by
crafting a strong
narrative. You can
persuade the audience.
TOP SKILLS FOR SUCCESS IN DIGITAL

THE ART OF LEADERSHIP
THE ART OF LEADERSHIP
 Knowing yourself is the
first step to becoming a
Leader.
 Question yourself: “Why
should anyone be led by
you?”
THE ART OF LEADERSHIP
 Leadership is a relationship.
Good leaders manage
relationships by knowing
when to be close – to
empathize, to build relations
of warmth, loyalty and
affection; and when to be
distant to keep people
focused on the goal, to
address poor performance,
to give relationship an edge.
YOUR ROUTE TO THE TOP
 Face to Face: You need to
meet people face to face.
 Humble: How to be humble?
Open up and appreciate
everyone’s contribution.
Top leaders build enduring
greatness through personal
humility.
 Don’t tell, show: Inspiring
behavior can be more
powerful than an inspiring
speech.
YOUR ROUTE TO THE TOP
 Let others shine: You just
kick start and let others
show their energy.
 Have faith: Trusting the
team when you are not
there.
 Reveal: Selectively reveal
weakness and don’t gloss
over imperfections.
YOUR ROUTE TO THE TOP
 Feedback: It is important to ask
for feedback to know where
you stand and where to
change.
 Tolerate: Be willing to tolerate
others mistakes.
 Foster loyalty: One of the most
important ways to manifest
integrity is to be loyal to those
who are not present. In doing
so, we build the trust of those
who are present.
YOUR ROUTE TO THE TOP
 Transparency: To be
transparent is to be open,
accountable and honest.
You can’t only look good,
you have to be good.
 Brave: To be brave is to
be in control.
TEN WAYS TO BE A MOTIVATOR
 1. Set clear, achievable
goals.
 2. Listen.
 3. Give praise.
 4. Use incentives
 5. …and deliver on
them.
 6. Give pep talks.
 7. Celebrate triumphs.
 8. …but don’t dwell on
failures.
 9. Stand up for the
team.
 10. Buy the first round.
BE A MOTIVATOR
 Change: As a leader, you
must not only be
comfortable with change,
it should be something
that you can handle
comfortably and even
enjoy.
BE A MOTIVATOR
 Challenge your comfortable
zone: We evaluate our
abilities based on our
achievements. Great
achievers challenge their
comfort zone and test their
ability to withstand
pressure.
BE A MOTIVATOR
 Take responsibility: You
don’t grow by blaming
others for your position in
life. You own responsibility
for what happen to you.
 Connect: Leaders connect
with people.
BE A MOTIVATOR
 Learn something new:
Successful people say that
they learn from others.
 “Anyone who stops learning
is old, whether at twenty or
eighty. Anyone who keeps
learning stays young. The
greatest thing in life is to
keep your mind young.” –
Henry Ford.
 1. The six most important words…’I admit I made a
mistake’
 2. The five most important words…’I am proud of you’
 3. The four important words… ‘What is your opinion?’
 4. The three most important words… ‘If yoU please’
 5. The two important words… ‘Thank you’
 6. The one most important word… ‘We’
 7. The last important word… “I”
THE ADAIR SHORT-COURSE ON
LEADERSHIP
DISCOVER THE DIAMOND IN YOU
 You are a diamond! Just
the way diamonds are
rare, so are humans.
 You know what you are,
but you don’t know what
you can become!
 Mastering the 9 Powerful
Principles is guaranteed
to inspire you and it will
definitely get you started
on your path to discover
the diamond within.
DISCOVER THE DIAMOND IN YOU
 1. PASSION: There is
nothing more powerful than
a human soul on fire! Follow
your passion and everything
will follow you.
 2. POSITIVE ENERGY:
Success occurs twice in life:
Once in your mind and once
in reality. The higher the
positive energy, the more
our chances of achieving
success.
DISCOVER THE DIAMOND IN YOU
 3. PERFORMANCE: Failure is
not when you don’t reach your
goals. It is when you don’t have
any goals to reach.
 4. PERSEVERENCE: The
result of your journey is not the
reward. The journey is the
reward. Success teaches us very
little – it is the failure that makes
you think and work harder. Be
prepared to fail, but have the
perseverance to try again and
again. Success will not be far
behind.
DISCOVER THE DIAMOND IN YOU
 5. PERSONALITY: There has
never been a great leader
without a great personality. In
a leader, personality is more
important than technical
expertise. The law of
personality stands for Looks,
Actions and Words.
 6. PEOPLE: The job of the
leader is not to create
followers. It is to create more
leaders.
DISCOVER THE DIAMOND IN YOU
 7. PERSPECTIVE: Perspective
requires personal as well as a
broader vision. A clear
perspective shows you the
direction to follow when life
brings you to a crossroad.
 8. PRINCIPLES: Let there
never be any doubt about
what you stand for. All great
leaders worth naming, worth
appreciating, have always
stuck to their principles.
DISCOVER THE DIAMOND IN YOU
 9. PATRIOTISM:
Inglorious is that success
which comes without
patriotism. It is the love
for your country and for
human beings anywhere
in the world that makes a
human perfect.
Be a Good Reader,
Be a Good Listener,
Be a Good Communicator
and
Become a Good Leader.

Best Wishes
