2. FACT V. MYTH Facts are records. They convey data. They tell us who, what, when, where, why, how. What are some examples of facts? Mr. Mulé wears glasses. Mr. Mulé has three older siblings. Mr. Mulé is 5’5”. Myth is the structure that is placed around facts to make meaningful and relatable the genuine kernels underneath. What are some examples of myth-making? Mr. Muléread an eye chart without glasses. Mr. Mulé is the best-looking of his siblings. Mr. Mulé once dunked a basketball.
5. Helps us understand ourselves and our sense of purpose as people and within society.Myth is a story that is translatable- that is, myth is something that makes sense across time and space. Myth is characterized by meaning and attachment, not by how “true” the details are!
6. MYTH AND NARRATIVE The Bible frequently conveys myth through narrative. Narrative = FACTS + THE FRAMING OF THE FACTS. It is the framing of the details that often throws us when we consider the truthfulness of the Bible.
12. RE-MEMBERING What is remembering? What is re-membering? Better word than re-membering? Reactivating? Revivifying? Reusing? Recycling? How does re-membering relate to the Cycle of Meaning? (Hint: step 4 of the Cycle.)
