Detailed Report
Muchativugwa Liberty Hove
I attended the AILA Congress in Brisbane Australia from 10-15 August 2015. I had submitted two
abstracts for the congress and both were accepted after a rigorous peer review process. Isubsequently
presented the two papers as detailed below:
12 August 2014
Strand: Intercultural Communication
Title: Linguistic B/Orders – Intra-national linguistic possibilities for South Africa and Zimbabwe.
14 August 2014
Strand: Language and Education in Multilingual Settings
Title: On the cusp of quality teaching-learning of English in rural schools in South Africa.
The two papers drew very significantaudiences and there were meaningful conversations that emerged
therefrom.
The first paper has been submitted to an accredited journal and the peer review process has
recommended publication in September, 2015.
The second paper was subsequently selected for development as a book chapter in a forthcoming
Oxford University Press book, edited by Professor Christina Gitsaki. This chapter has been
provisionally accepted after two blind peer reviews and I am working on the finalization for the 2016
debut and launch of this exciting addition to conversations about language in multilingual settings.
I attach to this report the presentation certificates awarded at the Congress.
I am also confident that these presentations at the congress have added to the status of research and
scholarship at this university, outside the personal recognition that this adds to my status.
