Result: Many workers left their unions after being blamed for the
violence that occurred.

Rise of Monopolies: Companies such as Standard Oil began to
become to big.
Government Response: Issued new laws that required that they take
steps to limit their monopoly role
Result: Tycoons such as Rockefeller disbanded their big companies
into smaller ones but still kept control through a Board of Trustees.

Coal strike of 1902 – Started as a strike
by coal workers for better conditions
Government Response: Acted as the
middle man between the Unions and
company negotiations.
Result: Both workers and bosses got
something from the deal

Triangle Shirtwaist Fire: Industrial Fire that due to the negligence of the
owners caused the deaths of 145 people.
Government Response: Set up commission that investigated what
caused the tragedy and what can be done to prevent it again.
Result: 60 new laws were created that benefited workers as a result of
the commission
