2. Artist Statement
Graphic design is the art of creating effective visual communication. It sounds like a simple concept; however, consid-
ering all the elements that are involved in a visual message, it is quite complex.
I usually begin my creative approach by defining an idea into individual parts in order to evoke an emotional response.
This is done by defining each word associated with a client’s idea, so that I may properly design a visual solution. This
process enables me to begin sketching ideas that represent that emotional response and directs the process to a final
visual presentation. When I meet with clients and they introduce me to their design problem, my mind processes many
branches of visual solutions from the production process to the final product.
To be a successful graphic designer in the competitive world of visual communication, I believe you have to be familiar
with many aspects of the visual communication process. I have always been drawn to the process as a means to
communicate effectively. I have been fortunate to hold a position in the printing industry since 2005; during that time,
I have been exposed to numerous experiences creating design solutions through print production. This knowledge
has allowed me to visually convey a final design product to my client before incurring excessive design and printing
costs.
Since I am knowledgeable in many software applications, operating systems, production equipment and presentation
solutions, I like to give my clients many options while considering their budget, turn-around time and their prospective
audience.
