3. When I started in the world of radio, I had no idea what to expect. It was foreign territory to me, and so many questions lingered. Would I be able to pull it off? Would I sound laughable once I popped the microphone? Would there be the forbidden and career-ending dead air when I told what was to be a joke? Once I sat in my seat as co-host of a Hip-Hop radio show, it all magically fell into place. It was as if I had been doing it for years, and my first day jitters dissipated. Always looking for the next level of success, I developed my own radio show. In a month’s time, I went from co-host to being “the voice” of Afrodisiac Soul – the beginning of a beautiful journey.
4. My first celebrity interview was with actress T’Keyah Crystal Keymah. I am sure she has forgotten our interview, and equally sure she has no idea what a huge boost she gave to me. What may seem to many as a simple “yes”, was an insurmountable goal to achieve. But that one “yes” helped me to continue when I was faced with plenty of potential guests saying “no”. From that one interview, I knew that I was serious about the game, and I was in it to win it!
5. My goal is to work diligently to leave behind a legendary path for other black women to follow. One in which I have touched all forms of media – radio, television and online. Words have such power, and I want to use them to not only entertain, but to show that there are still positive black women that have substance when they speak. The industry has given us a raw deal, and we have given ourselves one as well. I want to change that perception of how we are portrayed. I want to leave behind a legacy of greatness.
