Stephen Sondheim is an American composer and lyricist known for major Broadway musical productions. He has won multiple Tony, Academy, Pulitzer and Grammy awards over his career. Sondheim's breakout work was Into the Woods, which opened on Broadway in 1987. It intertwined classic Grimm fairy tales and followed characters like Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and a childless baker and his wife. Into the Woods was adapted for the stage but not film, winning critical and commercial success over its run.
