Welcome back!
Last week you learned about the expectations for the course and
Congratulations on making it through the first week of the new semester!
In our last class you practiced close reading skills by reading and
analyzing two poems. Today we will discuss your independent reading
requirements and you will learn about common literary elements.
Do Now:
1. Take out “Eleven” to be stamped.
2. Write MLA heading in upper left corner of a new page in your
classroom journal.
3. Make a T­chart in your journal. On one side, copy down a short
passage from this weekend’s reading that made an impression on you.
On the other, write down your thoughts about the passage.

15. Rachel can be eleven, but also all her younger ages
as well. In what ways do past years stay with a
person through time?
Why can’t Rachel speak up to tell Mrs. Price the
sweater is not hers?
Why does Rachel react so strongly to being given the
sweater?
