2. UCHS – FIELD TRIPS AND
EXCURSIONS POLICY
Field trips and other excursions play a valued part in the
educational program at UCHS. Students, while taking
part in such excursions, are subject to all the rules,
policies and expectations of the school, just as though
they were in school.
While on field trips and excursions students are under
the direction of teachers and/or chaperones appointed
by the Principal or Vice-Principal.
In order to be eligible to attend field trips students must
pay all necessary fees and have consistently
demonstrated UCHS’ three beliefs of respect,
responsibility and choose to learn.
3. EF’S RULES OF THE ROAD
When travelers enroll on tour, they agree to EF’s
Rules of the Road. If travelers do not conform to
these regulations or any specific rules set by their
Group Leader, they risk dismissal from the tour,
returning home at their own expense with no
refund for the missed tour portion. Decisions
regarding tour dismissal are up to EF and/or the
Group Leader.
4. UCHS’S ALCOHOL /
RESTRICTED DRUGS
POLICY
The use of tobacco and tobacco replacement
products (ie: vapes), alcohol, or illegal drugs is not
allowed on school premises, nor should they be used
prior to any school activity. Students found under the
influence or in the possession of restricted substances
during any school activity will have their parents
notified and the RCMP may also be contacted. The
student may be suspended from school and from
further participation in extra-curricular activities.
5. EF’S ALCOHOL RULES
Travelers under the age of 18 may not consume
alcohol on tour. Travelers over the age of 18 (or
older, if local laws require) may consume beer or wine
in moderation. The consumption of hard liquor is
strictly forbidden. Group Leaders may prohibit all
alcohol consumption at their discretion. Excessive
drinking by any traveler will not be tolerated and will
result in dismissal from tour at the traveler’s own
expense.
6. UCHS’S SMOKING POLICY
Students are not allowed to smoke on school
property.
Students may not smoke between classes.
Students participating in extra-curricular events are
not allowed to smoke during school-sponsored
activities or frequent the smoking areas at the
request of their coaches.
7. EF’S SMOKING RULES
Smoking is not allowed on buses, during meals, in
hotel rooms or in any other shared, enclosed space.
8. UCHS’S DRESS POLICY
Students are expected to attend school suitably dressed.
During warm weather, students may wear shorts in class
providing they reach mid-thigh.
Clothing which is unacceptable includes alcohol / drug
related shirts and hats, shirts displaying inappropriate
language or graphics, and short tops which expose a
person's midriff or cleavage.
Also unacceptable is clothing that allows underwear to
be seen and displayed.
Headwear may be worn to school but may not be worn
anywhere in the school or at school-sponsored
functions. Headwear is defined as anything covering the
students head such as hats, toques, hoods, and/or
sunglasses. Hats and sunglasses are acceptable on
the trip as we will be outside of the school.
9. EF DOES NOT HAVE A
DRESS POLICY
However, when entering churches (such as the
Vatican) you must have covered shoulders and knees
and you must remove hats.
A good rule of thumb for dressing daily is to be
respectful.
Females who dress skimpily may receive unwanted
attention.
Dress for the occasion. Obviously a beach day will be
different than a tour day.
10. BE RESPECTFUL
Appreciate extra opportunities
Follow the guidelines of the place you are visiting
Support chaperones’ decisions
Promote peer involvement
12. CHOOSE TO LEARN
Take advantage of new learning opportunities
Leave with at least one positive thought
13. OTHER EF RULES
All scheduled activities are obligatory. If any
traveler is sick or has a physical ailment that might
prevent them from participating in an activity, they
must tell the Group Leader, who will notify the Tour
Director.
If any traveler wants to visit friends or relatives
while on tour, they must tell the Group Leader before
the tour departs. The Group Leader must obtain the
permission of the parents and school administration
and give the details to their EF Tour Consultant by 30
days prior to departure.
14. Travelers are expected to respect any nightly
curfew that the Group Leader may set for their own
safety and security. Room checks will be conducted at
the Group Leader’s discretion. Visitors or group
members of the opposite sex are not permitted in
travelers' room.
Hitchhiking and the driving or renting of any
motor vehicle is strictly forbidden for all travelers.
Travelers are required to pay for any phone
calls or incidental personal expenses incurred at
hotels. These will be payable the evening before
departure at each hotel.
15. Illegal activities will not be tolerated and are
punishable by immediate dismissal from the tour. If
travelers are involved in any illegal activities, all costs
to return home are at their expense. If the local
authorities are involved, travelers will be subject to the
laws of the country you are visiting.
Payment for damage done to hotel rooms or to
buses is your responsibility. If you notice any damage
upon arrival at a hotel, you should notify the Tour
Director immediately. If travelers do not conform to
these regulations or any specific rules set by their
Group Leader, they risk dismissal from the tour—
returning home at their expense with no refund for the
missed tour portion. Decisions regarding tour
dismissal are up to EF and/or their Group Leader.
16. LASTLY,
Rules are there to ensure that everyone is safe and
has a good trip.
Remember, you are there to experience new places
and cultures.
We want you to have the best trip possible!
