Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation (BSEC), a large state-owned conglomerate, is projecting negative growth for the current fiscal year 2015-2016. BSEC comprises 8 manufacturing units and contributed Tk. 9805.19 lakh to the national exchequer from July to December 2015, achieving 72% of its production target but realizing 27% less revenue than the previous fiscal year. With a 9% negative production rate, BSEC's accumulated sales volume was Tk. 24539.18 lakh, lower than the Tk. 27097.65 lakh accumulated in the previous year.

Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation (BSEC) one of the largest state owned
conglomerate have projected negative growth over the quarters of the current fiscal year 2015-
2016.
The conglomerate remains as contributor of the government revenue is comprised of 8 operating
manufacturing units namely Atlas Bangladesh Ltd, National Tubes Ltd, Eastern Cables Ltd,
Eastern Tubes Ltd, Gazi Wires Ltd, General Electric Manufacturing Co Ltd, Bangladesh Blade
Factory Ltd, Pragoti Industries Ltd.
The Chittagong Dry Dock Ltd had been recently transferred to the Bangladesh Navy for more
productivity and to meet the internal demand of ships for naval use from the authority of BSEC.
According to the performance report, during the fiscal year 2015-2016 in period of July-
December ’15 the BSEC has contributed to the national exchequer Tk. 9805.19 lakh with an
average achievement rate of 72 per cent of the target production of 38095.83 units where the
actual production delivered 27502.01 units up to December 2015.
By the same period of the last fiscal year 2014-2015, BSEC contributed to the national
exchequer Tk. 13390.97 lakh with 30152.86 units of accumulated production which shows a 27
per cent less exchequer contribution in the current year than the previous year. With a 9 per cent
of negative production rate the accumulated sales volume of the BSEC is Tk. 24539.18 lakh
where the accumulated sales volume was Tk. 27097.65 lakh
