1. QUESTION 4
HOW DID YOU USE NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE
CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH, PLANNING AND
EVALUATION STAGES
2.
3. Research and Planning
• Research and Planning From the very beginning
of our project we have engaged with new
media technologies. Immediately, we began
researching teaser trailers to gain an
understanding of what was expected from us
for the project and to look for inspiration for
our teaser trailer (and later our ancillary texts).
This would not have been possible without the
use of a computer to allow us to access website
such as YouTube, trailer addict, imdb, Google
images and the official empire magazine
website. Having a convergent device such as a
computer was what allowed us to do this so
easily and quickly. Without one we would have
had to have relied on things such as trips to the
cinema to gather research on teaser trailers and
film posters, and buying lots of different types
of film magazines to gather inspiration for our
magazine cover
4. Research and Planning
• In each stage of creating my complete media
promotional package I had to use many different
technologies some new and some which I was
familiar with, I had to use both hardware and
software and found it was easier to adjust to those
things which were just more advanced to the things
we were used to like the video camera which was
used primarily in the construction stage . On the
other hand as I was already used to the Adobe
Photoshop software to learn Adobe InDesign wasn’t
as complicated and it seemed to be better off in the
construction of the CD digipak. I have obtained new
skill which I can use in the future when creating
designs
5. Wordpress
• Wordpress Having all my work on a easy
to access website has proved to be very
useful in my evaluation. It has made it
easy to show people my work in order to
get their feedback on my trailer, poster
and magazine cover; something which can
be done anywhere with a computer (and
an internet connection).Pros: The
evaluation can be easily organised into
each question on the blog and I can get
feedback from people by linking the blog
to them. Cons: Slow internet connection
means the work won’t load.
6. Adobe Premiere Pro CS5I
• Adobe Premiere Pro CS5I continued to
use Premiere Pro after the creation of
my trailer to create videos for my
evaluation. It has continued to prove to
be a useful and easy to use software for
creating videos, in particular for my
evaluation when I filmed people
watching the trailer or talking about the
trailer I was able to play the trailer in a
smaller screen so that the watcher
could see what they saw or understand
what they’re explaining. Pros: It
continues to be a useful software for
creating professional looking videos
with easy to use effects
7. Side share
• Slide Share Slide Share is a Web 2.0 based
slide hosting service. Users can upload
files privately or publicly in the following
file formats: PowerPoint, PDF, Keynote or
Open Office presentations. Slideshows
are a great way of collecting information
together and presenting it in a way which
is more interesting than a word
document. Slide Share is a great way for
me to embed the slideshows I create
straight into the posts on Word press.
Pros: I have never experienced a problem
uploading or sharing slideshows with this
service and it has proved to be a quick
and easy method. Cons: The slideshows
embedded in the posts are very small so
they need to be seen at full screen to be
read properly.
8. Microsoft Power point
• Microsoft Power point/Keynote Microsoft
PowerPoint is a powerful communication
tool to present our views and ideas
effectively using diagrams, photos, clip arts,
sounds, designs and animated special
effects. Keynote is a presentation software
application developed as a part of the
iWork productivity suite by Apple Inc. I have
used both of these programmes in my
evaluation to create slideshows of
information about my trailer, magazine
cover and poster. It was useful to be able to
go between the two depending on whether
I was working at school or at home. Pros:
Both of these programmes are easy to use
and create professional presentations.
Cons: There are sometimes problems with
using presentations between the two
programmes.
9. Prezzi
• Prezi is a cloud-based (SaaS) presentation
software and storytelling tool for exploring
and sharing ideas on a virtual canvas .prezi is
distinguished by its Zooming User Interface
(ZUI), which enables users to zoom in and out
of their presentation media. Prezi was a great
software to use in my evaluation as it allowed
me to use photos , graphics and writing in an
interesting arrangement and also made the
presentation even more interesting with the
Zooming animations . Pros: Fairly easy to
create interesting presentations which can be
laid out in any way you want . Cons: When
you are creating the presentation it can often
freeze (which isn’t great when you haven’t
saved) and it needs a good internet
connection in order to work.
10. Construction
• We filmed our music video from a cannon camera
onto a Sony HD tape. The majority of filming I
enjoyed using the manual focus settings allowing
me to explore different softness and sharpness in
the shots. I had time to practise using this in my
induction (practise) video and my test footage. To
edit the music video we used final cut Pro. This
allowed us to cut and paste different shots
together on a computer and it also offered a lot of
different options for effects and editing. To make
my ancillary texts I used Adobe Photoshop as it
allowed me to extend my skills I had previously
gained whist using that software using layers,
brushes and adjustments. I used the website
“dafont.com” to find different fonts to use on my
digipak and magazine advert without conforming
to the small selection available on Photoshop
