[en] The separation of samarium from europium using a solvent extraction method was investigated. Some factors affecting the
separation, such as HCl concentration, dicyclohexyl-18-crown-6 (DCH18C6) concentration. The use of non-polar organic solvents (ethyl
acetate, benzene, carbon tetrachloride, xylene or toluene) and polar organic solvents (chloroform, dinitrobenzene, dichloro-ethane or
dichlorobenzene) were studied. The optimum conditions were deduced in a simple form. The low concentration of DCH18C6 (0.03 M in
chloroform) as extracting agent is sufficient to extract the europium with uptake yield ∼ 99.9 %, whereas samarium remains in the
aqueous phase (8 M HCl), and the time needed was 15 min for the separation process. Europium was re-extracted from the chosen
concentration of DCH18C6 into the aqueous phase by using 1 M HCl
