2. One day Mullah Nasruddin was going somewhere
when he met a man who was carrying a large milk can.
The man wished Mullah Nasruddin and said,“Mullahji, I
have a problem. Would you be kind enough to provide
me a solution?”
Mullah Nasruddin willingly consented to hear him out
as he was eyeing his big container of milk. The man
said, “Whenever I get up in the morning, I feel
intoxicated. My head spins around and I feel as if I have
eaten or drunk something that is spoilt. I don’t
understand what could be the problem.” Mullah
Nasruddin asked, “Hmm! This is a serious problem,
indeed! Let me think. What do you generally eat or
drink before you go to sleep?”
The man said, “I drink a big glass of milk.” The Mullah
said, “Now, I have found your problem! The milk that
you drink in the night causes the intoxication.” The
gullible man asked,“How is that, Mullahji?”
Mullah explained to him, “You drink milk before
sleeping. In your sleep, when you toss in your bed, the
milk gets churned. It turns into butter. When butter gets
churned, it turns into fat. Fat gets churned, it turns into
sugar. Then the sugar gets churned and ferments in
your stomach. So, finally you wake up with fermented
liquid in your stomach in the morning, you feel dizzy
and uncomfortable and you feel intoxicated.”
“So what do I do?” asked the man in simplicity. The
clever Mullah said,“The solution of your problem is very
simple. Don’t drink milk! Here, give it to me.” Mullah
took away the milk can from the man and walked away
from there. The poor man stood there looking
bewildered.

The Hope Diamond is a rare and deep blue coloured diamond; that was
mined from the Kollur region in Golconda. It was cut from a crystal that
existed 1.1 billion years ago. It weighs a hefty 45.52 carats. Bad luck and
mystery surrounds the Hope Diamond.
The Hope Diamond landed in the hands of French traveller Jean-Baptiste
Tavernier. Tavernier died from a mysterious fever and legend says that
his body was shredded by wolves. King Louis XIV bought the diamond;
but his whole family, including several of his grandchildren died soon.
When it came to King Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette, they
were guillotined in the French Revolution.
The diamond was stolen but reappeared in London and was acquired
by banker Thomas Hope. The diamond cursed all those who touched
it and people kept selling it. It was then bought by an American heir-
ess Evalyn Walsh McLean. Would you believe that she too experi-
enced terrible tragedies like the death of her 9 year old son in a car
crash, suicide of her 25 year old daughter and her husband becom-
ing insane?
The Hope Diamond was finally bought by jeweler Harry Winston;
who simply put the diamond in an envelope and posted it to the
Natural History Museum in Washington D.C. He felt it was the
most secure and unnoticeable way of sending such an expen-
sive item.

4. I’m not on the set of some fairytale movie!
The oddly shaped trees you see behind me
are totally real! And there are 400 of these
mysterious pine trees, here in a suburb
called ‘Gryfino’ in the ‘Zachodniopomorskie’
(try saying that!) province of Poland. All of
them have the same northward 90-degree
bend at the base of their limbs, and have
growntobetallandseeminglyunhampered
by their C shape curves.
Someexpertsbelievethatthetreesgrewlike
this because they incurred some sort of
damage to the tip and along some side
branches. Well I think there’s something
morethannatureatplayherebecausethey’realluniformlydeformed!Therearealotoftheoriesaboutthis,like
snow storms, or even intentional damage to make furniture. Even the locals here haven’t a clue as to the origin
of these mysterious crooked trees.
That’s probably because the local town was devastated during World War I and wasn’t rebuilt until the 1970s,
by new settlers I suppose. I, however, think that a witch or wizard had something to do with these trees. I mean,
how else do you explain 22 rows of crooked trees surrounded by completely normal trees?

In the Earth’s outer core, there is liquid iron. Its motion generates
a magnetic field. Every few hundred thousand years, the poles
interchange. How?Why?We don’t know.
Jerry Ehman, while working for the Search for Extra Terrestrial
Intelligence in 1977, got a 72 second signal from the constella-
tion Sagittarius. No one knows who sent the signal.
Death Valley in California is a big patch of dry earth. Stones
somehow manage to slide on this dry earth surface by them-
selves.
Scientists unearthed an iron screw inserted in a rock in Moscow,
in 1998. This screw was probably 320 million years old; which is
older than dinosaurs.
Arkansas in the US witnessed tons of dead black birds falling
from the sky, in 2012. No one knows why this happened.

Why is Spoilt Food Bad?
There are tiny germs and bacteria present all
around us. These germs do not normally affect us
because our bodies have ways of filtering them
out before they can come in. Or they are present
in such small quantities that we are able to fight
the bacteria and not fall sick. However if you con-
sume large quantities of spoiled food, it may over-
whelm your immune system, the part responsible
for fighting germs.
Like humans, bacteria also need to be fed and
they use the organic material in food to survive.
They break down substances in food and make
them useless or harmful to human beings. Some
even produce their own substances, which is
what makes rotten food smell so bad. Bacteria
multiplies at a very fast pace. Eating spoiled food
means consuming large amounts of bacteria
which your body is not able to fight off. That is
why you must store food in conditions that are
not suitable for germs and bacteria to survive.

History of
the Computer
One night Sir Dig-a-Lot came late and asked Rohan, “What do you
want to learn today Rohan?”
“Tell me about the computer. When was it invented, its history,”
Rohan eagerly asked.
Sir Dig-a-Lot took a deep breath and an-
swered, “The first computer was a simple
calculator made of a bunch of strings and
beads. It was called the Abacus. It was used
for simple calculations and was invented in
500 B.C.
Blaise Pascal then invented a simple calculator
in the year 1642 which didn’t run on electricity,
but gears and wheels. This was modified over
the years and finally, in the year 1833, Charles
Babbage invented the first modern computer.”
Pascal's Calculator
9. “But the computer that Babbage invented was only for
general purposes and employed punch cards for input and a
steam engine for power. It couldn’t be developed because of
funding problems and lack of help to develop the parts. For
his contribution he is still known as the ‘Father of
the Computer’.
It was not until the twentieth century that electricity was used to
run a computer. In the 1880s Herman Hollerith introduced punch
cards and sorting machines for the United States Census Bureau to
handle large amounts of data from the census. Hollerith’s company
eventually became the core of what we know as IBM.”
Rohan interrupted the lesson. “Is my
father’s computer made by Babbage?
He calls it ancient!”
9
10. Sir Dig-a-Lot laughed and said, “No Rohan, your father’s computer
belongs to an advanced era of computers - the third genera-
tion. The first generation of computers used vacuum tubes
in 1940. They used punched cards or punched paper for
the purpose of inputting information only. It was one
of the most important inventions.
The invention of the transistor marked the beginning
of the second generation of computers in the year
1947. In the 1950s the computer ran on a chip. It
was only in the year 1960 that computers were
affordable and could be kept easily at home.
It was Jack St. Claire Kilby’s and Robert
Noyce’s invention – the integrated circuit or
microchip, that saw the use of computers in
large numbers and also the beginning of the
third generation of computers.
11. Rohan said, “No wonder my father complains
about his computer. Technology is advancing
every second.”
Sir Dig-a-Lot replied, “That’s
right, Rohan. And someday you
will contribute to it too. Now
off to bed!”
Once there was a country bumpkin
Who observed a great big pumpkin
To a slender stem attached;
While upon an oak tree nourished,
Little acorns grew and flourished.
"Bah!" said he.
"That's badly matched."
"If, despite my humble station,
I'd a hand in this Creation,
Pumpkins on the oaks would be;
And the acorn, light and little,
On this pumpkin stem so brittle
Would be placed by clever Me."
Then, fatigued with so much thought,
Rest beneath the oak tree he sought.
He Soon in slumber found repose
But, alas! An acorn, falling
On the spot where he lay sprawling,
Hit him--plump!--
Upon the nose.
Up he jumped--a wiser bumpkin.
"Gosh!" he said.
"Suppose a pumpkin
Came a-fallin' on my face!
After all, if I had made things,
I'll allow that I'm afraid things
Might be some what out of place."

north instead of the magentic north.
Scientists have discovered large concentrations of methane gas on the ocean floor of the
Bermuda Triangle - which could contribute to the large number of accidents and disappearances.
Some of the deepest spots on Earth are found in the Bermuda Triangle.
The area is known for extremely violent storms which suddenly appear and dissitate.
