Great American Corporations Taking an Interest In Future Math Superstars - Good to See It
1. If we want our students to study math, they need to know
there's something in it for them. Math isn't the easiest
subject to learn, and it's a lot like learning a new
language, especially when you get into higher
algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. If we can make it
fun, interesting, and exciting then not only will the kids
learn, but it will enhance their future career
prospects, and their success in the job markets of the
future. Okay so, let's talk about this for second shall we?
Specifically, I'd like to address how American corporations
can ensure they have the skilled, talented, and the trained
employees they need to move their ball towards the goal
line as well.
2. First, I'd like to state that in a way our education
system, especially at the higher levels tends to be
corporate welfare. In essence, we are training humans in a
way to make them viable employees for American
corporations, and we are doing it on the taxpayer's
money. Can you see that point from a philosophical
perspective? In that case shouldn't it be the corporations
with billions of dollars in retained earnings putting up at
least some of the bill? Sure it should, and many
corporations realize this, and they want to keep the
pipeline primed for the future, therefore they are coming
up to the plate and bringing in their own technology to
education.
3. There was an interesting article on Homeland Security
News recently titled; "Raytheon launches MathAlive! to
encourage math, science education," published on March
12, 2012 which stated; "Results of a new survey of
America's middle school students show that nearly half of
students aged 10-14 enjoy learning math outside of school
and consider hands-on activities their favorite method for
experiencing new subject material; Raytheon launches
MathAlive! to encourage students to study
math, science, and engineering."
4. When I see things like this it makes me smile, after
all, Raytheon is a great company, and they will need great
employees in the future, as the products they make are
getting more and more sophisticated. We must have more
individuals in math and science as our world becomes
more technologically advanced. Many of the top CEOs in
Silicon Valley's greatest technology companies agree, and
they are all in when it comes to education in our schools
and the need to promote math and science.
5. Perhaps, it's just a matter of making it fun and
exciting, and therefore the kids will enjoy it, and
thus, learn more and learn faster. Indeed I hope you will
please consider all this and think on it.
