ASSOCIATE IN ARTS / ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE
The requirements listed on this worksheet are those in effect for 2009-2010. A student remaining in
continuous enrollment at Diablo Valley College, Contra Costa College, or Los Medanos College may elect to
meet the graduation requirements in effect at the college from which the student will graduate either at
the time the student first enrolled or any subsequent year of continuous enrollment. Continuous
enrollment is maintained when a student receives an A, B, C, D, F, P, NP, I or W at DVC, CCC, or LMC in
at least one class in each academic year (fall, spring, summer).

 1. BASIC DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

          • Satisfactory completion of a minimum of sixty (60) units of degree-applicable course work.
          • Overall grade point average of 2.0 (C) or higher in degree-applicable course work.
          • At least 12 units of degree applicable course work earned at Diablo Valley College.
          • English 116, 118 combined: maximum credit, one course.

 2. GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Students may select from three options for General Education:
Option 1 - Diablo Valley College General Education Requirements
This is the general education pattern detailed on pages 2 and 3 of this worksheet.
Students electing Option 2 or Option 3 should substitute the general education
requirements listed on the worksheets labeled IGETC or CSU-GE.
Option 2 - IGETC - Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum
Option 3 - CSU-GE - California State University General Education Pattern
It is strongly recommended that the selection of the General Education Requirements option be
made with the assistance of a counselor.

 3. MAJOR/AREA OF EMPHASIS REQUIREMENT
This requirement is satisfied by completing the courses listed as the major/area of emphasis under
various disciplines in the DVC catalog. Students whose first enrollment at DVC was prior to Fall,
2008, and who have maintained continuous enrollment since then, may receive an AA degree in
Transfer Studies/CSU or Transfer Studies/IGETC. See a counselor for more information.

 4. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION
