Q1 was built to be the world’s tallest residential tower. It was built in Queensland Australia, on the Gold Coast. Construction on the building began in 2002.
The design was thought of in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. The design of the tower is meant to be reminiscent of the curves of the Sydney 2000 torch– which was inspired by the Sydney Opera House. The Q1 has 78 floors, 527 elite and exclusive apartments, and 11 elevators.
Q1 is short for Queensland Number one, it was finished in October of 2005 and opened its doors on October 26th, 2005 to the public. The building is taller then the Chrysler building in New York City and it is taller then the Eiffel Tower. The project cost approximately $225 million AUD and it is known as a luxury spa and resort vacation spot.
In 2008, one of the two fire escapes in the Q1 tower was considered defective. A subsequent– drawn out investigation, showed the potentially life-threatening design flaw. The report confirmed that levels 3-74 were defective. The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service approved the safety of the building
Safety measures have been taken to ensure the safety of all tenants and customers in the building. However, this issue still has not been resolved and is ongoing today. That is 5 years without a resolution to the crisis. I recommend that in the future this kind of situation is dealt with immediately and a solution is found to ensure that every fire escape is working and we have every safety feature needed. This will ensure that no damage is done to our reputation and we do not have an accident while we are looking for a solution that is taking 5 years.
