Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic, located on the Moldava River. It has historically served as the capital of Bohemia and Czechoslovakia. Prague was founded in the 9th century and flourished under King Charles IV in the 14th century. During the 19th century under Austro-Hungarian rule, Prague became a center of Czech nationalism and culture. After World War 2, Prague was occupied by the Soviet bloc until peacefully splitting into the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 1993.
