Lost at sea
1. Lost at Sea
Brrrrring! I woke up to the sound of my ringing alarm clock, and my
parents in my face. "Happy Birthday!" They yelled. "Thanks." "We got
you a present." I looked around. "Where is it?" I asked. "Follow us and
we'll show you." My mom and dad always have a way of suprising me.
They covered my eyes, and walked me out to our porch. They
uncovered my eyes and yelled "Suprise!" I gasped in astonishment. It
was a beautiful sail boat. "Thank you so much!" "Want to go on it now?"
"Yes I do!" "You can go down to the peir and go by yourself if you want
to." "Okay, can I drive your car down there?" "Sure." My mom said
while handing me the keys to the truck. Even though I got my driving
lisence a year ago, I still didn't have my own car. My parents said that
I'd have to pay for my own car. But I still haven't accomplished that
yet.
After I got my boat down to the boat peir I climbed inside and
set sail. I looked around for the oars until I noticed a big
steering wheel. Wow, I've never seen one of these before, only
on pirate movies. I thought. Once I got out far, I noticed the
strong, feirce wind rocking my boat. Hmmm, maybe I should
start pulling back to shore. I thought. The winds got stronger.
I managed to get to the steering wheel. I was about
three hundred feet away from my current position in the sea.
What I didn't notice was, I wasn't going in the direction I
thought I was going. The rocking got stronger. This time I could
feel the tipping. It was making me feel sea sick. I leaned over
2. the boat so I wouldn't be having to "swab the deck" I saw my
reflection in the sea water, my face was green. "Hmmm, why am
I not seeing any land yet? I'm at least thirty miles away from
my last location at sea?" I said to myself. I was correct about
being thirty miles away from my last location, but not any closer
to shore, but farther. It had finnaly accured to me, I was lost
in the sea. The wind got even stronger and blew my steering
wheel off and into sea.
I remained calm because I rememdered I had my phone
on board. I couldn't belive it had service out here. I
called my mom. "Hey Violet." "Mom I need your help!"
"Whats wrong?" "I'm lost!" "I thought you knew your
way back to shore." "I do." "Then why don't you just
steer your way back to shore?" "I can't because the wind
is to strong and blew off my steering wheel." "Ok, well
lower your anchor so you won't drift any further." I could
start to hear the tension, panic, and fear in her voice.
"Ok, I lowerd the anchor, now what?" "There's a location
transmitter at the back of the boat, read it, call the
coast guard, and tell him your location." "Okay." I hung up
the phone and ran to the location transmitter. It read 70
degrees N. I punched in the coast guard's number. A
woman with a british accent like mine picked up the
phone. "Coast Guard tower, how may I help you?" "Yes my
3. name's Velvet Renee and I'm lost at sea." "Okay, what is
your location?" "I'm at 70 degrees north." "Okay we'll be
there as soon as we can."
As sunset approched I started to get really
hungry. I reached over to my bag and got out my loaf of
bread. I started to get sleepy. The rocking of the boat
swayed me to sleep.
I woke up shivering. Suprisingly, the breeze that drifted me out to
sea just the day before, was gone. But, it was still very cold. I reached
in my bag for a bag of cheetos, but I touched something hard. It was
my laptop! Lucky for me for my sixteenth birthday my parents had
gotten me a laptop with built in wifi. I opened it up, it was fully
charged. I logged on and played a few games until the salty water
splashed on my laptop and shot the wires. "Man, this cost four
hundred bucks!" I looked in my bag to see what else I had. I found a
sketch book, oil paints, and fifteen diffrent sized paint brushes. My
boat started to rock again and my bag went sliding down to the back
of the boat. I didn't feel like getting up to go get it, so I decided to
leave it there, and get it later.
BOOM! I heard a loud thud. I turned my head all around to see
what it was. Then something big with sharp teeth caught my eye. I
turned around slowly to see what it was. I gasped with fright. It
appeared a big maco shark had jumped on the back of my boat. I
noticed my bag with was down there were the shark was too. I
4. couldn't acces any of my stuff. My heart started to thump out of my
chest as the shark eyed me with a murderous glare.
As nightfall came around for the end of the second day, I
started to feel empty. I was so hungry. I fell asleep.
The morning, I started to even worse. I was so hungry and
thirsty. I looked at the back of my boat, and sure enough there was
the maco. But it didn't look as if it was breathing. I got closer, it
really wasn't breathing. Just incase the maco wasn't fully dead yet, I
grabbed my bag as fast as I could an ran to the front of the boat. I
dug in my bag for all the food, I swallowed every little crumb.
I started to feel sleepy, so I took a little nap. I was awoken by
a siren. It was a big boat that read: "Coast Guard". I was saved! I
jumped up and down and lured them over near me.
When the boat got back to shore my mom was waiting right
there on the peir. I ran to her and she hugged me with all her might
and whispered in my ear: "I'm so glad your home." I felt hot tears
running down my face. I whispered back "Me too mom, me too." She
plastered a big grin running from ear to ear on her face. I couldn't
help but smile too.
