Veganuary was launched in the UK in 2014 as part of an attempt to convert raise awareness about a vegan lifestyle. During Veganuary, people pledge to give up meat and animal-derived products for the whole month of January. The hope is that many of these people will continue with a vegan lifestyle once the month is over, having seen first-hand how easy and tasty it can be.

Making Veganism More
Accessible
In the not too distant past, veganism was niche and finding
vegan products took time and effort. Part of the intention
of Veganuary is to make veganism more accessible. This
involves promoters working with brands, retailers and res-
taurants to increase the number and variety of vegan op-
tions that are widely and regularly available. In 2022, over
1,540 new products and menus for vegans were launched.
Getting Involved
The promoters of Veganuary are trying to make being
vegan as simple and fun as possible for everyone who
participates, whether that’s only for the month of January
or as part of a permanent change. The Veganuary website
offers a range of helpful tools and ideas, including easy
meal plans, a nutrition guide and favourite recipes from a
few celebrities.
