Meet Bitey, the Apathetic Fawn Character from Brackenwood
1. Bitey The main character from Adam Phillips’ Brackenwood series
2. Bitey is a male fawn/satyr-like creature, whose home is the forest world of Brackenwood. His posture has the carefully constructed appearance of looking apathetic and too cool for anything
3. Movements are sharp and quick, never frantic Gestures are generally attempts to threaten His facial expressions are usually conveyed only through his eyes, therefore being frequently changing and exaggerated for effect. Occasionally we see a mouth though:
4. He only grumbles/grunts/hums in a creature-like way, but sounds more like a child than an adult Has complete dislike of any proximity in any way, all the time. He is very defensive and suspicious, probably in case he comes across someone like himself. The only exception, to beat-up/annoy something else
5. His clothing/design is fairly standard fawn Cartoonish twist with the head being all fur and eyes, allows a bit more originality
6. All this information points to the pretty obvious conclusion that Bitey isn’t very sociable (he’s called Bitey) and therefore doesn’t depend on it at all. He comes across as a personality who ‘works alone’, especially considering the fact that they haven’t given him a voice to talk to anyone with. His poses and stance in general are very suggestive of apathy, like he’s standing back waiting for the world to do something that impresses him (which also suggests that it doesn’t). Although everything above makes him sound like a 2-kool loser, he has as many moments of vunerability as he does moments of arrogance and unfair triumphs, making it more easy to emphasize with his personality. It’s also funny when he’s harassing and annoying other creatures, but then you feel bad for laughing, so his personality does make us consider our own through our reactions. All up though his design tells us that he’s really just a nice guy who stopped caring.
