WHO – 1948
“Health is a state of complete physical,
mental, and social well-being and not merely
the absence of disease or infirmity.”
WHO – 1986
“A resource for everyday life, not the objective
of living. Health is a positive concept
emphasizing social and personal resources,
as well as physical capacities.”

WHAT IS HEALTH ?
Article 25 of UN Declaration
Everyone has the right to a standard of living
adequate for the health and well-being of himself
and of his family, including food, clothing, housing
and medical care and necessary social services,
and the right to security in the event of
unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood,
old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances
beyond his control.
Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special
care and assistance. All children, whether born in
or out of wedlock, shall enjoy the same social
6. UHC by WHO
Universal Health Coverage
UHC means that all individuals and
communities receive the health services they
need without suffering financial hardship. It
includes the full spectrum of essential, quality
health services, from health promotion to
prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and
palliative care across the life course.
7. India and UHC
In 2012 PM took Oath for UHC- in up coming 10
years i.e in 2022 we will have the UHC achieved
in India.
Ensuring equitable access for all Indian citizens,
resident in any part of the country, regardless of
income level, social status, gender, caste or
religion, to affordable, accountable, appropriate
health services of assured quality (promotive,
preventive, curative and rehabilitative) as well as
public health services addressing the wider
determinants of health delivered to individuals and
populations, with the government being the
guarantor and enabler, although not necessarily
the only provider, of health and related services.
