2. Question 1
In what ways does your Media product use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions or real Media products ?
Combining camera work, sound and mise en scene was all dealt with through one operation.
This operation was I-movie on the Macs we were able to use.
3. Sound- Sound was one of the more difficult elements to deal with due to having to judge
how far away to film, there was also the diegectic and non diegetic sounds to
consider, for example the script played a large role of what genre was set so was
accents, tones and words were picked carefully to enable the most suitable genre to be
set.
There was also the non diegetic sounds for example when on of the character slaps
another character we had to add in a slap sound due to it being a more realistic sound
and much better timing.
Then we had to pick and add a song to the trailer once it was uploaded to I-movie, the
song had to be perfect fit to the genre so it would match, so we had to consider the lyrics
the soundtrack and the effect it had on the audience
4. Camera- We used a series of ways to film the footage, mostly with a tripod, the
reason being is because it enabled us to use the shot types which were needed e.g.
Panning in on a moving character was a much smoother transition which also gave it
that more professional edge. Some times hand held following the character to add
realism and effect to the genre of the trailer, yet again enabling a professional look to
be created and a genre to be set.

Hollyoaks on the left has an over the

over the shoulder shot due to both scenes
representing a serious matter with another
person included, hence the over the
shoulder shot representing someone

types we used to our base soap, here is an
A symmetrical close up of Tiff which is very
very similar to the Hollyoaks shot
type, these shots were used after an event
had taken place to show the characters
emotions and add to the genre.
7. Mise en Scene had to be taken into consideration when filming due to it being what is
seen on screen. This means is plays a large role in creating the genre for the trailer which
is important.
The first element we looked at was the lighting, we chose a soft natural light to help make
it look as realistic as possible, also me made sure the light was coming from the correct
and appropriate direction to get the best possible face shots meaning emotions could be
detected easier.
Props were also taken into consideration, for example mobile phones so we could show it
was a modern soap with topics which matched the common social trends for example
relationships issues and conflict making the audience want to continue watching. We also
thought about the frame props for example what props created the background, for
example we used large T.V’s and vehicles giving it that more mature upper class theme
all adding to the genre

you can see it is public with an

surrounding with a two shot of the
characters.
9. In the screen shot I am demonstrating the
props, as you can see Hollyoaks are using
drinks as props which look alcoholic at first
so we decided to use a pregnancy test to
reflect on teenage life, allowing the
audience to relate to the issues presented
to them
10. Responsibility Relationships
Responsibility was represented Relationships played a large role
in Hilltop Farm also, this is when in Hilltop farm due to cheating
Tiff finds out she is pregnant and and common problems being
teenage pregnancy is a big shown so the audience could
problem in the real world at the relate

Family Issues
Family Issues are shown through
Hilltop Farm when Emma finds Murder
out her mother is not actually her Murder plays a role in Hilltop
mother, this is yet again relevant Farm due to a clip showing Joe
to the modern world issues so grabbing Emma from behind with
the audience can relate again a scream, also Joe is in all Black
showing colour conventions
