He that loveth not knoweth not God;
for God is love.
a. Eros (erotic) – sexual love
- the feelings of arousal that are shared between people who are physically
attracted to one another
b. Storge – natural, familial love
- love shown between a parent and a child
c. Phileo – brotherly love
- exhibited in a close friendship
- involve feelings of warmth and affection toward another person
d. Agape – in New Testament, often translated as love
- self- sacrifice
- not sexual love, friendship or brotherly love, nor charity
- love which is of and from God, whose virtue is love itself
God’s love is different from sappy, sentimental love such as we often hear portrayed.
Real love bleeds.
John 13:34(NIV) “A new command I give to you: love one another. As I have loved you,
so you must love one another.”
