1. The Touch Of Fear

Chapter 1
Richard woke up when he felt the cold air coming in through the hotel window. ​Thought I
closed that, ​he muttered, standing up and slamming the window shut. ​Whatever. Back to sleep
now. ​He thought, and was about to lay back down for some more sleep when he heard a
strange sound coming from outside the door. It sounded as if somebody were actually standing
outside of his door with an axe, chopping up firewood. ​It’s three o’clock in the morning. Who in
the hell would be doing something like that at this ungodly time?
He walked slowly over to the door and peeked out through the small eye hole. ​There’s
nobody out there!​ But the sound kept coming, as if the person were standing just feet from the
door. He thought about opening the door, then decided that probably wasn’t really the best idea.
What if the person out there was dangerous? ​Instead, Richard just walked over to the window
and parted the curtain just enough so that he could get a peek outside.
“Hey!! Is someone out there?”​ ​He called. No answer. Just silence. ​What is going on
here?​ ​Somebody has to be making that noise. But who?
Suddenly, there was a much louder noise, one that rattled the door on the walls. Richard
jumped back, and tripped on the legs of his pajama bottoms. ​What is this?
“Richard! Are you in there?” ​The clerk from the hotel office. That’s who that is. Thank
God.
“Yeah, yeah. I’m here.” He called back. “What’s going on out there?”

2. “I’m actually not sure. I was wondering if you knew. I heard that noise. And I was
wondering what it was. There’s no one out here. I don’t know what in the hell could’ve been
making that noise.” He said. ​That’s awful strange. If it wasn’t him, who could it have been?
