1. Have you ever heard an older person comment how different things are now from when they
were your age? What is it that defines our times? If you were to meet someone from the distant
future, what would you share to help that person understand what life is like in 2009? If you had
the chance to go back in time, what clues or evidence would you look for to discover what it was
like to live then?
This project was created especially for you to have fun!
In this project, students look at the 20th Century. Working
in teams, students will research information on one decade
of the 20th Century. From their research, the teams will
create a PowerPoint Presentation about that decade. Each
person will be responsible for creating slides for your
decade. Your presentation must satisfy the criteria listed
below. Teams must also create a Bibliography page citing
the resources (both printed and digital) that are used to
create your PowerPoint.
PowerPoint Criteria
Introduction
1. Title – the decade and its slogan
2. Introduction to the decade – narrative
3. Graphic – decade collage that communicates the message of the slogan for the decade
4. Timeline of the decade
o 3 events for each year
In The News
1. U.S. Headlines: Major events, scandals, wars, etc.
2. Presidents and Vice Presidents: Biographies and legacies
3. World Headlines: Events outside U.S. with Global Impact
4. Must include a graphic for each category (may use more than
one graphic)
Leisure Time
1. Entertainment Personalities
2. Movies, Television and Books
3. Music, Songs and Dances
4. Sports
5. Must include a graphic for each category (may use
more than one graphic)
2. On the Homefront
1. Technology: inventions, new discoveries, transportation
2. Fashion/Trends
3. Language/Slang,
4. Toys/Fads
5. Daily Life
6. Must include a graphic for each category (may use more

Bibliography Page (number of resources is up to you)
• Use the list tool to put your citations on your PPT
• Page must have a list of general references for
your team
• In addition, each team member must create a list of their specific resources
Present a lesson on your decade
• Use your PPT to help you teach about your decade
• Write a quiz for your decade
• No less than 7, not more than 10 questions
Quizzes from all teams will be combined to create a unit quiz on the 20th Century Decades.
Performance
• Dress in the style of your decade (dress up on other days for EC)
• Perform one hit song from your decade
• Teach the class one dance from your decade
• Lead one art project or activity from your decade
• Bring one food item from your decade to share with the class
You will be given two class periods on your Decades day.
1st Presentation Period: Present your PowerPoint, teach your decade and give your quiz
2nd Presentation Period: Give your performances and conduct your activities.
Presentations Begin Monday, June 1
Group Work Rules:
1. Each member must contribute to PowerPoint. Slides must have name of creator.
2. Each member must lead one performance.
3. Quiz questions must be on major topics. Quiz questions will be given ahead of time.
4. Notes (during other presentations) will be collected and scored.
5. Collaborate with your group. Work together. Get along. Have fun!
