Rule 1 Plan for the Long Term
• Define business goals
• Select marketing and social channels that suits your brand
and organization. Always ask: “Is this us?”
• Choose a business owner
• Set a budget
• Assign social media as an employee performance metric.
• Plan for a project that is at least 6-12 mos. In duration.
• Track milestones
• Select and measure metrics

Step 2: Teach through Social Media
• What you take for common knowledge may
be the answer to your customers’ problems.
• Let your light show in your marketing.
• “Always be closing” is replaced by “Always be
helping”.
• WIFM Replaced by WIFT. What’s in it for them.
• Build trust and credibility

• Writing is the currency of the internet
• Schedule a writing time every week that cannot be
moved or forgotten.
• Make it a priority
• Create a culture of writing within the organization.
• Doesn’t need to be perfect, but needs to be authentic
to your business
• Never Plagiarize and always cite sources

Step 4: Monitor Your Marketing
• Determine key metrics before launching new
initiatives.
• Create a metric dashboard and update it
• Test to see if you’ve achieved the results you
expected.

• Use Social media as a listening post
• Schedule a meeting with your customers at
least every 6 months
• Conduct research through SurveyMonkey.com
