Completion deadline
Our Documentary will be approximately 10 minutes long, including the end credits
which will take approximately 30 seconds.
We are going to need to finish the documentary in December 2017. Before
December, we will need to make sure the budget and storyboard, along with the
other tasks finished as we will need to use the information we created to help us
create our documentary, as we will need to make sure we have enough money to
purchase certain equipment and the storyboard will tell us what scenes we need to
record and in what order.
We will have this done by the end of December 2017.
About us
We are Eclipse Studios. We are a four person group, within which specialise in
various different areas matching our individual skill set. We have found this to be
very useful as we can divide the workload to suit our individual skills, thereby
getting more work done for less time and balances out our strengths and
weaknesses perfectly, ensuring the best work outcome and final product, using our
individual talents to work through the tasks we must conquer.
Our group has previously made a music video which now has over 300 views on
youtube as well as a Film Trailer for a Horror film, which has recently gotten over
500 views on youtube. We think the knowledge we have obtained during our

previous media experiences will help. We will be filming for four weeks then taking
12 weeks to edit as we have found that obtaining the shots takes less time than the
editing and we’ve learnt to leave more room for the editing.
Synopsis
We are going to be interviewing people and asking them about bullying and their
verdict or experience with it, along the journey we will be giving facts and figures
to show the damage bullying has caused in our community.
This is a video we have made as a way of bringing about a safer environment into
our community and strengthen ties within the community. We will be telling a
story about bullying and what one can do to prevent it before it grows and spreads.
Some scenes may contain characters acting out certain roles to reenact certain
stories that are real which some people may have gone through. Moreover, some
scenes may be used as a background to display some statistics and facts about the
subject instead of just using recording in the documentary as we want to present a
different and unique that will stand out from the other documentaries as there are
many bullying documentaries already created.

Genre
Our genre is documentary style, combining various techniques of narration styles
and visuals to make our film. Our sub-genres are a combination of performative
style and poetic documentary both used to stress subject experience and gain an
emotional response from the audience. Furthermore, we thought that the topic,
bullying, is very serious and needs to be brought to people’s attention more
because there have been many videos created about this topic but non have
recently made a large enough ripple to make much of a change, so we concluded
that this topic would be best and easy to create as we know what type of audience
to target and have access to different locations to record in.

Audience
Our target audience are teens, specifically
being school kids from the ages of about
12 - 18. This is because we have found that
under 18’s are most likely to get bullied and
have decided to make a video for the one’s
just joining high school to help correct their
behaviour by showing them the right way to
behave and help them apply this to their daily
lives. We have decide to make this as our
production studio has the most experience
and understanding when it comes to this
topic as we are more intune with what will most likely move this age group.
Though we have our primary target audience we also found our secondary target
audience to be the teachers and adults/ parents who view our video, we hope
that they gain a new perspective on the topic and that it may help them spot
bullying or someone suffering from the consequences of bullying faster and put an
end to the problem.
Our target audience will determine the level of intensity our video can have, we
have to be careful of the emotional development of each age and take it into
consideration when showing the consequences of bullying but at the same time we
think it is a necessity to show them how serious the consequences are at this early
stage so they can fully understand the damage mentally and physically it can
cause.
Background
We are creating a documentary which is about bullying because we have a
production assessment which expects us to create a documentary that will shown
to our community. The documentary will be shown to our community which is
Redbridge, as we will try to raise enough awareness about this subject. Another
reason is that we are trying to give the audience, particularly ages under 18 but
will also been shown to adults too, a message about the topic, bullying, as we feel
that this topic is very serious and feel as if it is not mentioned enough to people.
Our documentary is loosely based off of two different documentaries ‘Exposed’
and ‘Real stories- too scared for school (bullying documentary)’. Like all
documentaries the aim of this video is to report to and educate the audience, for
this particular documentary we are going to be showing them some unsettling

things that will stay in their mind when they think of bullying and it’s
consequences; these unsettling things are the images of consequences such as
anorexia and self harm. But more than that, we want to make a documentary that
stands out amongst the others on our topic, because we are very passionate about
our topic of choice.
Research
We gathered a lot of information before we created the documentary because we
need to make sure certain locations are suitable to record in, make sure no
inappropriate language is used in the scene and be able to
present the video to the correct target audience with the
correct regulations in the media industry. We have decided
to include different types of location in order to have a
variety instead of just using one location which would make
the documentary look tedious. For instance, we will be
recording main scenery in a school building as we are
targeting students which are in full time education and have
found out that most bullying occurs in school, another
location we have chosen to film in is a local park where the
victim can go to in order to feel safe and get away from the
bullies, additionally the park location can be used as a
background to display facts and statistics to show our
documentary is reliable and true. Finally, a house may be
also be included as a location because we have also seen in other documentaries,
the victim may feel more comfortable to tell their experience about bullying in
their house.
We have researched that trailers, documentaries and movies now
have ratings so we will need to make sure that our documentary is
suitable for the target audience, which are students aged from 12
to 18 years old. We'll make sure that swearing, violence and sex
content will be minimal or not included at all to make sure it fits
the BBFC requirements.

Style
The style of our documentary is set in a school building as we mainly want to
actions to take place in a school as we will be targeting school children and
bullying mainly takes place where children spend most of their time in. Another
setting that we would use to record in is a park and/or house because we want to
include different background where the character can speak in and show the
audience more information about the character because they may want to show
what other places they may go after they were bullied to feel safer and get away
from the bullies.
Different type of scenes will contain different lighting as may be one scene can
show an upsetting scene which will show the lighting to be low and dull but the
next scene may represent a happier mood and show the lighting as bright and
colourful because the lighting is important as it shows and represents the
atmosphere and/ or what the characters’ maybe feeling in that specific scene in
the video.
The structure of language used by the characters will be informal, because the
language will be more easier for the younger generation to understand than if we
used a more formal language which mainly the older generation would understand
better. Therefore, by using an informal language spoken throughout the video, the
audience will understand what is being said more straightforward and feel
connected with the characters as they speak the same as the audience and would
be roughly around similar ages.
Approximate budget
We have created a budget on microsoft edexcel as it is more easier and possible to
work with as we will need to write down all the prices of certain items we will
need to use when recording for the documentary, as it is set out as a spreadsheet
which is made for quantitative research. We will need to keep track of how much
certain items will costs us and make sure we have written down all the items
needed and see which ones we have paid for or not paid for yet.

We will mainly be advertising our documentary through the use of social media,
posting tweets about it and talking about it on both Facebook and Instagram, as
well as Snapchat. We will be using various media sites so as to ensure we reach as
many people as possible. However, we are aware that though the popularity of
social media is steadily increasing, not all members of society access these sites
and so we would also upload a trailer. Also, we will display the advertisement in
newspapers as the older generation may not be fully aware of the new social
media apps therefore we can still inform them about the documentary through
newspapers which they may uses mostly.
Furthermore, we have decided to sell some types of merchandise such as hats,
rubber bands, t-shirts and backpacks to help raise awareness about the subject and
then take all the money raised from the merchandises which we will then donate
to a charity or a site that people have been affected by bullying.
