Marco Belzoni was an Italian explorer and engineer who made important discoveries in Egypt between 1815 and 1819. He cleared and opened several Egyptian temples and tombs, including the Second Pyramid of Giza and the tomb of Seti I in the Valley of the Kings. Belzoni's explorations helped increase European interest in Egyptology and ancient Egyptian history.
