1. Use this presentation template to summarise your
Place in Question assignment 2015
The template also introduces most of the units you’ll cover this year through selected criteria.
Up-load the finished PowerPoint to your block via SlideShare.
Each page asks you to reflect upon and evaluate your work since the beginning of
term, for each stage in the project.
Write careful explanations for each outcome (text between 14 & 20 points), and show
how you have covered the parts of the units listed on the page.
Include photos of each outcome to help this process.
Do not describe what you’ve done. Explain it, justify it and make links between
research, experiment and final outcomes.
2. Location studies
Unit 12 (Fine Art)
a. recording of experiences or information to develop intentions
What approaches did you use to examine and record your location? Representing the space;
details; light etc. How did you decide and which worked the best? Why?
b use of materials, processes and technology or a combination of materials,
processes and technology to develop ideas
What did you learn through your initial enquiries? Experiments and techniques, use of an
experimental process to generate new ideas, suitability of some rather than others?
a)When first looking at my area I made a range of detailed and quick
sketches of all the different shapes, colours and textures of my area using
mixed media exploring the possibilities to gain a deeper understanding of
what I looking at in front of me. I also took a range of measurements to
understand the proportions of my object in my area.
b) Though my experiments I improved my skills in general sketching and I
also learned how to express a texture through a range of different
materials, by using more and more different materials this inspired me to
explore with more and more materials and use them in different ways to
express different things.
Illustrate (photo’s from sketchbook) and fully explain one example for each criteria. Explain how you have covered the criteria.
3. Location studies
SketchUp and Movie
Multimedia
b) After all those experimental studies I decided to combine
them all make large scale of all my studies, I also used the
measurements I took and explored the use of Google sketch
up which was very help in developing my IT artistic skills. And
I made a short summary film of all my work especially putting
emphasis on my 3D piece of work. I also made a short film
documenting my progress in the project.
Illustrate (photo’s from sketchbook) and fully explain one example for each criteria. Explain how you have covered the criteria.
b) Developing multimedia ideas
by combining the use of
technology processes.
4. Making and
developmental work -
(Large drawing, 3D, print)
Unit 12 (Fine Art)
a. recording of experiences
or information to develop
intentions
What approaches did you use to
examine and record your
location? Representing the
space; details; light etc. How did
you decide and which worked
the best? Why?
b use of materials,
processes and technology or
a combination of materials,
processes and technology to
develop ideas
What did you learn through your
initial enquiries? Experiments
and techniques, use of an
experimental process to
generate new ideas, suitability
of some rather than others?
a) I used detailed and quick
sketches and did most of my
studies directly in front of my
area and then some at home
where I could go into deeper
detail.
b) Through my experiments I
learnt how to express different
textures and shapes in different
ways. I learnt how making small
detailed, using a range of
different materials can help me
progress my ideas in to a
creative unique final outcome.
Illustrate (photo’s from sketchbook) and fully explain one example for each criteria. Explain how you have covered the criteria.
5. Using historical and
contemporary
research
c use of contextual references in own work
How have you used references? What impact did they have on your ideas?
Illustrate (photo’s from sketchbook) and fully explain one example for each criteria. Explain how you have covered the criteria.
c.) these artistic studies helped me greatly as it helped me push my
ideas along using new and unique techniques and I used the
inspiration of one artist to finalise my final outcome of this overall
project.
a research into historical and contemporary work, showing
understanding of the contexts which influenced the work .
What have you learned about the influences on other’s work
a.) during this project the use of looking at other people work
was very inspiring I looked at a range of different ideas,
techniques and styles that help me generate more innovative
and creative ideas
B recording and presenting information explaining the use of
visual language in others’ work. Where have you analysed
examples? What did you learn?
b.) every time I studied a particular artist I would make my
own study and apply the technique I learnt to my own work,
then I would analyse how useful it was when developing my
own work.
Unit 9
Contextual References
6. b) Develop a range of ideas in response to the brief.
How did you develop your ideas for the final outcome? What
techniques did you use to generate ideas? What influenced you in
doing this?
Developing your
personal brief
b.) I used a range of sketches and experiments to do my work and just try
different possibilities of my poster and generate new ideas to make my
poster fulfil the brief as much as possible.
Illustrate (photo’s from sketchbook) and fully explain one example for each criteria. Explain how you have covered the criteria.
a) Resolve the needs of the brief to develop intentions
How did you develop the final brief? What client / end user is
it for? Why?
What constraints and requirements did you consider?
What research did you undertake into your chosen area of
creative enquiry?
a) I looked at a range of different artists to help me finalise the brief, I looked at some
artists that inspired me and looked at who their products were for and why they
made them and used this to complete my brief. I researched a range of different
clients and artist who I could use as inspiration to use for my final poster.
Unit 13 (Design)
7. Unit 11 Develop &
Produce Own Ideas
Developing your
personal brief
a)
b) I decided on the final outcome by choosing the poster that I
liked the most and the one I thought best fitted the brief. And I
chose the technique by experimenting with a few different
types of techniques and choosing which one worked
effectively.
Illustrate (photo’s from sketchbook) and fully explain one example for each criteria. Explain how you have covered the criteria.
a) Create and develop ideas in response to the brief.
How did you interpret your brief? What different approaches to the
same theme did you explore? What decisions did you make to refine
your ideas?
b) Plan and produce final
outcome using specialist working methods and processes.
How did you decide on the final outcome? Why was this the
best approach? How did you choos the techniques you’ve
used? Did they work effectively?
8. Unit 8
Personal, Portfolio
Development &
Progression
c identifying and pursuing progression goals
What evidence do you have of research into progression? Photos of
open days, website research? What have you learned so far?
• C) on my blog I have documented all the open days and research I
have done into my post college interested where I have included
photographs and detailed annotation of my opinions and of the
specific place I visited, and have learnt that going to these open days
really helps me finalise what I want to do after college and where I
want to go.
b portfolio presentation techniques How have you
presented your work?
Did you make particular use of photography or
presentation boards?
How have you considered clarity of information in your
sketchbooks and boards?
B) I decided to board two of my dry point prints on cardboard presentation
boards. I boarded these because this technique was a turning point and
gave me really good results and made me decide what I wanted to do for
my final product.
9. Time management
At the beginning of the project I thought I managed my time well I started planning out and allotting time slots specially for art and set myself targets to get specific pages and homework’s done for example the research of 4 different illustrators
homework that was set was a large one therefore I made sure I completed it on time by selecting specific time slots to do certain specific things in order for me to complete my homework on time.
But towards the end of the project as the work load got even heavier I found it more difficult to manage my time therefore had to put in extra hours and time into my work to make sure it was all done on time.
Research
I researched into many things in this project to broaden my skills and to widen and inspire myself to drive my ideas forward. But the main piece and most important part of research I did was my initial research of my area.
Though out this project using drawing as a source of research was very helpful as when I was discovering and looking into my area I used drawing to help me explore the space, colour, shapes and textures to explore my area and then I could take
this information and use to further and finalise my ideas. Also when I carried out researched of other artists and illustrators I always did my own study of a piece of their work and then use their technique and style and apply it to my own work and
see how I could use these methods and use them for my own work.
I found the research into other artist very useful as I could take experiment with new techniques and methods and use them to explore and test them out for my own work which inspired me to try new things and play around with all the
possibilities of my work and therefore develop my ideas.
I used the internet and the word of mouth to find out about other artists and new techniques i also used my everyday journeys to college and other places to look at other artists that would inspire me and help me develop and improve my ideas.
Development
I thought i developed my ideas well through the research of other artists, this helped me experiment and gain inspiration from their techniques and help me improve my own work and drive my ideas forward.
At the beginning of the project I used drawing to help me develop my work by doing lots of experiments and trials to help inspire me and test out a range of new methods, techniques and styles it also helped me to test out a range of different
media and materials, and mixing them all together trying out new things.
To decide what materials I wanted to use I would try out a range of possible materials then choose the one I liked the most and the one I thought gave the best outcome which fulfilled the aims I wanted to achieve.
My main contextual influences, was a range of artists like Paul catherall Anderson design and André Chiote, combining what I learnt from all three of these designers I took their skills and techniques and made something inspired by them with my
own unique twist. I discovered that taking inspiration from researched artist it could help me develop my ideas much better and help me finalise my ideas to the point where they satisfy the brief.
Through the development and researched ideas I could finalise my ideas through going through a detailed process of improving and changing my ideas constantly throughout, I communicated my ideas through using the appropriate colours shapes
and typography that I needed to create a certain style I wanted to show for my final product, I experimented with possibilities to communicate the messages and themes I wanted to show through my work
Final Outcomes
The final qualities of my work are sleek, sophisticated and refined which I wanted to achieve through my use of block colours creating 3D shapes using shade to create and exact replica of my area promoting the place showing it in a positive light to
make people want to go there which is one of my aims.
These qualities were part of my original brief because I was designing for a specific designing company that need this style to keep up their sophisticated reputation.
The final piece promotes my area and makes people want to go there by communicating a happy, relaxing atmosphere through the use of shapes colour included in the poster. Even the typography gives this impression and colour of it
communicates these feelings and impressions.
I think I have completed the brief well and fulfilled all the aims I wanted to as I have kept to a specific sleek style that the company I am designing it for wanted and I have made the poster look professional through a careful long process of making
and designing it through the use of adobe illustrator.
If I were to do the project again I would take more time in developing my final idea to make sure the poster could communicate the ideas in the best possible way I would also research into more possible techniques of making of different poster to
widen my skills in experimenting with different materials.
However from this project as a whole I have learnt a whole new range of skills that I can now take on and take onto further projects and use to expand my developments. I have learnt a range of new skills and processes for example I learnt how to
dry point print which helped me experiment with possible techniques and process for my final poster.
I have organised and presented my sketchbook in a well thought out, attractive manner making each page relevant to the next, making it my journal of developing ideas and a story of the journey through this project. I have also kept up to date
with my blog recording and documenting my passage through this project and also sharing my visits to university open days and trips to other art trips that are relevant to my course.
