or challenge forms and
conventions of real media
products?

2. My media product use and challenge forms and
conventions of real media products in many ways.
Focusing on locations we used many different ones,
but they are still similar to real media products.
Looking at the park this is a location that has been
used by a few artist in many different ways. There is
no exact feeling or emotion connected to this location
although people see it as a place to be free and
happy; nevertheless this is not always the case. We
decided to use the park in our video to represent
freedom and isolation. You see one of our characters
who is a drug addict go there to have some privacy
but to also be free. This is similar to the girl who is a
prostitute in Ed Sheeran’s A-Team video who also
takes drugs and is homeless.
Another character used the park as a place where she
could again be free but she was also unhappy which
is usually not why you see someone in the park. In
our video we have tried to make every situation
seem realistic, and I have noticed that not everyone
goes to the park because they are happy. On several
occasions I have walked through a park to see people
arguing or crying even homeless people looking for a
place to rest; so by using our park location the way
we did challenges the normal connections to a park
but its also realistic that both videos use natural
lighting in these locations.

3. The camera shots between the two videos are similar as well as the location. In both
videos the girls faces are hidden or you can see a portion of it. In both shots the trees
are bare of leaves and houses/ buildings are visible in the distance along with the
leaves on the floor. The style of bench we have used is also similar to the one in Ed
Sheeran’s video. Although we have different camera shots they are still pretty
similar. The shots we have are long shots and medium shots, whereas in Ed
Sheeran’s video they use two different medium shots, one from the back and one
from the front of the character. Also in the video they have used the effect of black
and white where ours are colour. What we also get from all these shots are a good
view of the park and what’s in it.

videos that use a park.
There are variety of things
taking place in the park
with the UK artists, that’re
neither good or bad; ones
been protected by a dog,
ones homeless and the
next is gathering a
congregation. US videos,
as shown, tend to use the
basketball section in the
park. This more shows a
good fun time. I feel like
the weather influences the
type of mood characters
portray. Ours was wintery
to match the bleak mood.

5. The toilet location is rare in videos but when shown it symbolises a
place to go to take drugs or privacy to cry. In our video we have
decided to use one of the obvious: drug taking, which I think
represents a drug addict realistically. A toilet cubical is a very
enclosed space which only allows one person to fit. This is a very
ideal location to take something that is against the law or carrying out
any actions that is unlawful as your isolated away from society. The
media never normally show women in toilets taking drugs this is
more a male type action. Which again is just stereotypically as famous
female artists are known drug addicts like former singers Amy
Winehouse and Whitney Huston who have both recently died and
were strong drug abusers. Model Kate Moss has also been in the
media eye for this. So again we have challenged media forms and
conventions to make our video more realistic.

6. Artist such as Bow Wow show himself taking drugs in Sell my Soul video but he is in
a large room. The Streets- Blinded By The Lights features a drug scene very similar to
ours as the character is in a toilet cubical taking drugs. In Rihanna’s Found Love
video we don’t see them taking dugs but we see them behaving like an they are
under the influence of dugs, what helps us think this is the use of a steadicam
spinning around very fast. We used the blurry effect on our victim for a similar
effect.
Some artists have made songs about taking drugs, which is similar to a verse in our
song where we talk bout a girl taking drugs. Lil Wayne- I Feel Like Dying basically
says the drugs make him stress free. In Red Hot Chilli Peppers- Under The Bridge
they talk about ‘when high they love that place’. Nine Inch Nails- The Perfect Day
also Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa - Smokin' On ft. Juicy J, they all talk about taking
drugs like its a good thing. Music being the powerful tool it is influences young
adults to be a part of the experience. The media blame Hip Hop and Urban music for
the influence and rise of drugs and crime happening around the world; but as I have
displayed all genres of music can be to blame. So adding a female drug addict to our
video is to symbolise the effect music has on people, what stress can lead to and also
what some young girls are doing.

7. Another location we used was a classroom which connotes a place for
learning and teaching. We went against the normal connotations and
decided to use it for an argument to take place. Classrooms are usually
full with students but our classroom is empty this is to show privacy.
Another things that is usually in classrooms are any tables and computers
even some form of board but our just simply has a table and chair. We
also changed the stereotypical couples having an argument to two girls as
a couple arguing.
What is similar between my
video and the video three videos
on the left is that we all use
natural lighting. Long shots
seem to be a common shot used
when filming the classroom but
we used high angle shots to
show their vulnerability; but we
also used other shots.

8. Costumes that are worn in the video by the actors are common usual clothing
worn by artists. It is also clothing teenagers in London wear. This is the
exact representation we wanted to make so it look realistic and so our
target audience can think the actors are just like them. We planned to
have a diverse range of actors from all countries and to cover as much
religions as possible but unfortunately this did not happen as we were
unable to get these actors. We managed to get an Asian actor but the day
she was available and filming was done she didn’t work well with the
other actor so we was unable to use her footage and her again.

9. Above is a picture of Bow Wow in the Above as you can see we achieved the
black background. We used white
‘Sell my soul’ video. In this clip he acts
studio lights to dimly light the room so
like he is possessed by the drugs, which the shot wasn't pitch black. As my
inspired my group to do the same thing. actress is a girl and Bow Wow is a boy,
His video is in black and white and I liked my actress is wearing accessories and
how it looked so I made my actor’s she also has her hair out which looks
costume be black and white and we also very effective when she acts possessed.

inspired us to do this. In our

actress and her face whereas
Bow Wows video shows him
in this position than the
camera tracks to how him in
the mirror but not as a reverse
shot.
