2.  Maher Ishak is the owner and supervising
pharmacist of Woodbury Pharmacy in
Highland Mills, New York. Prior to serving
patients at Woodbury and other
pharmacies throughout the state, Maher
Ishak earned his bachelor’s degree in
pharmacy from Cairo University.

3.  Pharmacists follow a highly specific
educational path, and those who choose
certain courses early on in their studies enjoy
an academic advantage. If a high school
student decides to pursue a pharmaceutical
career, extra math and science classes can lay
a groundwork for future studies. Aspiring
pharmacists begin with two years of
introductory college courses in chemistry,
biology, anatomy, and physiology. Additional
classes in speech and composition may help
students prepare to effectively communicate
with patients.

4.  In order to be admitted into a doctorate program,
candidates must pass the Pharmacy College
Admission Test (PCAT). While working toward their
doctorate, students study topics such as
pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacology, and
toxicology. Additionally, students are required to
complete between seven and 10 clinical rotations,
each typically lasting from four to six weeks.
In the United States, pharmacists must pass the North
American Pharmacist Licensure Exam before finding
work in their field. In many states, exams covering
pharmaceutical law are also required.
