Gold was historically used as a vaccine in Chinese medicine for centuries and was believed to cure diseases like smallpox and measles in the late 1920s until the 1990s. Gold ink produces high quality printed images and gold coating on compact discs resists scratches and improves longevity. While there is a large amount of gold dissolved in seawater, approximately 10 billion tons in total across the oceans, it is not economically viable to extract at present.
