WEST GEORGIA RANKED NO. 1 FOR FIRST TIME IN AFCA DIVISION II COACHES’ TOP 25 POLL
WACO, TEX.– There is a new No. 1 team in the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, and for the first time in program history, it is the
Wolves of the University of West Georgia. Thanks to Winona State’s (Minn.) upset win over then-No. 1 Minnesota State, West Georgia moves
into the top spot after its 31-10 victory over then-No. 13 North Alabama. The Wolves earned 25 first-place votes, followed by new No. 2
Northwest Missouri State, who picked up six first-place nods. Ferris State (Mich.), Colorado State-Pueblo and Ashland round out the top five.
Every team in the Top 25 changed places this week thanks to 10 teams losing in the Top 25 on Saturday. Ferris State has achieved
its highest ever ranking in the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, coming in at No. 3 this week, as well as Texas A&M-Commerce,
who jumped three spots to No. 8. Both Charleston (W.Va.) and Central Missouri make their first appearance in the poll this year, with the
Golden Eagles ranked No. 23 and the Mules at No. 25. There are only five undefeated teams left in Division II, and one of those teams,
No. 5 Ashland, puts its 8-0 record on the line next week as they host No. 9 Grand Valley State (Mich.) in a key Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference contest.
