2. A Brief History of TLC
The Library Corporation (TLC) services many public,
school, academic, and special libraries by creating and
distributing automation software worldwide. The
company provides three integrated library systems,
Library Solution for public, academic, and special
libraries, Library Solution for public and private school
libraries, and Carl X, a next generation automation
system. These integrated library systems (ILS) automate
the standard operations of a library, including check-
in/check-out process, cataloging, inventory, authority and
reports.
3. A Brief History of TLC
TLC began as a company in 1974 by Annette Harwood
Murphy as Co-Founder. In 1985, the company had much
success as it was the first to use CD-ROM for data storage
when it released BiblioFile cataloging software. Since
then, their ILS technology is used in the Los Angeles
Public Library, Dallas Independent School District,
Anchorage School District, Chicago Public Schools and
Ministry of Home Affairs in Singapore, just to name a few.
4. A Brief History of TLC
To accommodate the changing environment of libraries,
TLC has added many interactive components that are
conducive to our internet and technology driven society.
A web-based, touch screen-functionality has been added
to its ILS. eBiblioFile provides a cataloging service for
ebooks and other materials. In 2009, TLC received a Best
in Tech Award from Scholastic Administrator Magazine.
