2. Cardiovascular Nursing Council), and member of the Heart Failure Society of America’s Guidelines/Clinical
Positions Committee, the American College of Cardiology’s Task Force on Practice Guidelines and the American
Heart Association’s Guideline Advantage Steering Committee. Nancy is also a current member of the research committee
of the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
As Associate Chief Nursing Officer in the Office of Research and Innovation, Nancy leads the office throughout the
Cleveland Clinic Health System, has her own program of research and mentors nurses in research and evidencebased practice. Her programs of research currently focus on two themes: (1) understanding bio-behavioral issues
that impact self-care adherence and clinical outcomes of patients with heart failure and (2) improving conformity to
recommended heart failure care advocated in national guidelines. Dr. Albert is also an external consultant and
educator to nurses to facilitate nursing research that promotes evidence-based nursing practices.
In September 2000, Dr. Albert was awarded “Nurse of the Year” for the Greater Cleveland Center for Health Affairs.
In October 2006, she received the “Partners in Research” award from the Center for Hospice, Palliative Care & End
of Life Studies from the University of South Florida. In March 2007, she received the 1st annual “Researcher of the
Year” award from the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists. In September 2007, Dr Albert was one of 5
recipients of the Nurse Investigator Award from the Heart Failure Society of America. In November 2009, Nancy
was designated an Inaugural Fellow of the American Heart Association affiliated with the Council on Quality of
Care and Outcomes Research and in 2013, she was the Distinguished Research Lecturer at the annual meeting of the
American Association of Critical-care Nurses.
