2. • IT is an acute disorder that occurs
almost exclusively in premature
infants.
• It may also develop in neonates
whose mother have diabetic or in
infants delivered by cesarean section.

Immature lungs of premature infants
Decreased pulmonary
blood flow
Increased pulmonary
resistance
Decreased lung
metabolism
Decreased alveolar
ventilation
Decreased lung
compliance
Deficiency of
pulmonary surfactant
Labored
respiration

4. Assessment
• History collection
• Physical examination
• Lab investigations
• Radiography

5. Nursing management
• Effective ventilation and oxygen therapy
• Temperature should be maintained normally
• Adequate nutrition
• Acid base balance
• Normal B.P. and hematocrit
• Nebulization therapy
• Administration of fluids and
electroytes,medications(antibiotics)
