Program Highlights
 The Reading Extravaganza was held in the media center. This event was
organized to promote the guided reading room, to provide teachers with new
ideas for teaching reading, and to begin conversations about best practices in
reading instruction.
 The media center received a character education grant to purchase 35 new
novel sets, which will be housed in the guided reading room.
 Twenty students attended one meeting of the Firebirds Book Club.
 The first meeting of the Indian Knoll Children’s Literature Book Club was held in
the media center.
 The media specialist attended PD360 training.
 The media specialist received training in Mediacast, Sharepoint, and the front
lobby kiosk.
 The media specialist updated the media center website, media center blog, and
front lobby kiosk.

Whole Class Lessons Taught
 31 lessons
Kindergarten – Students attended weekly storytime. Storytime themes included
monsters (the letter M), author and illustrator, and apples (sequencing).
1st grade – Students learned about Cinderella stories from around the world.
2nd grade – Students learned about selecting “just right” books using the book
Goldilocks and the Three Libearians.
3rd grade – Students learned about elements of mysteries using the book The Web
Files.
4th grade – Students learned about nonfiction text features and practiced using
these features to gather information.
5th grade – Students learned how to use Destiny to locate books needed for the
social studies fair.
