Evaluation Question 5
1. 5. How did you attract/address your audience?
When discussing the genre and the themes that our film includes, we
immediately knew that our audience was going to be young females. We
followed through with this and chose a young female dancer as our lead and
she is also the only character in the opening sequence. This allows young
girls to relate to her especially if they enjoy dance and ballet. The costume
that the female wears portrays her as innocent as the colours of white and
pink connote naivety and pureness, pink is also a very feminine colour. The
fact she’s very professional, poised and her choreography is very elegant and
precise, this shows she’s good at dance and younger girls will aspire to her.
We didn’t choose a boy as our main character, as the market for male
dancers is smaller than females, we needed to choose an already large
existent audience for the distribution of our film.
I think the class audience we are addressing is all classes but perhaps more
of the middle class, as they are more linked to ballet dance, classical music
and elegance. We attracted this particular audience through the music
chosen; it is very classical, soft piano that is associated with the middle class.
However it is not typical ballet music so therefore we are still attracting other
classes, the music is very open to new styles and has tense moments.
We are also attracting professional dancers and/or teachers as the moves
and skills shown are professional and could be inspiring and interesting for a
dancer or dance teacher.
I think our main audience is female teenagers, because of the ballet dance
being the main feature, our female is very pretty and professional, something
that younger girls look up to. Our genre is also a drama which is clearly shown
as some of the parts of the music are very tense and the pictures construct a
representation of a personal story of the female dancer as all the pictures are
of her.
