Technology Assessment
• Varies according to school district
• Post-referral, the IEP team meets to
determine whether steps are necessary
• Referral should consider all prior and current
assessment data
3. Step 2: Conducting an Assistive
Technology Assessment
• Generally completed by the Assistive
Technology Specialist, the assessment is done
with significant help from other IEP members
• May include:
– Direct observation
– Interviews
– Formal assessment
– Selected activities in predetermined environments
4. Step 3: The Individualized Education
Program Team (IEP)
• The IEP Team which conducts AT device trials
is a multidisciplinary team comprised of
interested parties such as the following:
– AT specialist
– General education teacher
– Special education teacher
– Parents
– School Psychologist
– Physical and occupational therapists
5. Step 4: Implementation of the
Assistive Technology Device
• Student, teachers, and parents, along with
many other interested service personnel all
assist the student with device accommodation
and proficiency
