How To Help War-Torn Countries
MAY 27, 2018 / LARRY POLHILL
Crises in war-torn countries such as Syria have reached alarming
heights, such that children are falling critically ill or dead. It’s a
humanitarian disaster that needs appropriate action – and you
can take part in providing relief and rehabilitation to those who
are severely affected. Here are some ways to help.

Donate to charities: There are dozens of organizations that deal
with the Syrian crisis and are rated well for their financial
management and accountability. Some of these are ActionAid
USA, Catholic Relief Services, Global Hope Network
International, UNICEF USA, and many more.
Some charities target children as their beneficiaries, such as Save
the Children, which supplies food for Syrian children and
supports education efforts in refugee camps. Doctors Without
Borders provides medical aid and distribute non-food item kits

for hygiene and comfort, while Mercy Corps delivers clean water
and sanitation services as life-saving essentials to those in war-
stricken areas.

Volunteer: Offer your time and effort to volunteer with these
organizations. Contact them and ask how you may be of service,
whether in packing essential aid or going to Syria or any of the
European countries where refugees have fled to. If you are
residing in Europe or Canada, you may also list your home as a
place where hapless refugees can stay. Spread the word to your
family and friends.
Take part in legislation: Contact your elected officials or the U.S.
State Department to encourage them to act or create policy in a
way that will positively affect these affected countries. Do this by
calling their office, sending a le er, or emailing them.
