Characterization
Character is a movement that others had shown to us within behavior and knowing a
movement, attitude that one or more than one has shown to us. Obligation of personality and
annotation also necessary for us to know about character, when the people speak or do things
that they have to do and shown, sometime the people trying to showing us about what they do
again and again, then we can judge the people about what they had doing or speaking. Actually
in the book of (Number the Stars), Peter is the one whom has shown us about his character, and
he is a character in the novel, who stands out as unique, because of this appearance, words and
actions.
First, I want to talk about appearance of Peter who standing in the story. Appearance is an
important for us to know about other people character exactly when we see someone face to face,
but sometime we just know character by our feeling about others, because the people that we see
the first time or not closer with us, we couldn’t know. Actually, when we see someone come
from different country or their face look like foreigner, sometime we judge that they from
another country or they are not our national people, because of their body language had
appearing to us. But Peter is the one that had shown us in the book of (Number the Stars) and he
has appear himself in the apartment, because he is the one that have marry with Annemarie’s
sister, but she had gone because of accident two week before wedding day. So, by his appearing
we can know him, it’s involve with differentiation of his movement and the way that he talk or
the words that they had say to us.

2. The next is actions that we had move to related with the actions, it is including knowing
about our character on behavior that we have and showing to other people who we are. When we
actually make movement or move our body through the way that we make by our self, we can
say it is body language or thing that we had do and shown to others. Peter is the one that has
make an action, exactly in book of (Number the Stars, page 17), he tried to protect people and
help people, at that time a lot of German soldier outside of apartment and them looking and
listening to the people. So, Peter be compassion and always control himself when he meet the
problem, but he didn’t anything to make up the problem within his actions, actually he had
problem with German soldier, because he is Jewish people. Actions is pulling our mind to care
and protecting someone or what things that we already have. When we decide to have a character
either in narrative, its most if we can see where our telling contradicts what we know about other
from their actions. This is one of the good ways to reveal character and keep the audience
engaged at the same time.
The third of my opinion, words are not really easily to know about the insight, but we can
understand the character outside or attitude of the people. Words are the way that we get to know
more about other people character, not only someone appearing to us or their actions. Again,
Peter also show us about character by the words that he has talk (Number the Stars, page 86) and
by his words on that page had make me to know and understand about this book, he had read the
Bible and that verse also included to related with this book, the last sentence had tell me about
God is the one that can count the stars one by one. So, I had found this verse from the Bible
exactly with the chapter, because in the book said Peter he just open the Bible without look
“random” and it is in (Psalm 147: 1-4). Peter had use the verse in the Bible and make to relate
with the book Number the Stars and I was thought about it, I also found the main idea from this

3. book and it made by related with God’s word. So, words can use to know what we say about
other reflects on our own character or can be the hint for us. Sometime words can make the
people unhappy or showing to another people that we are good person or bad person, because
people can think through the way that we talk. Our behavior or attitude can subscribe with words
that showing our character, because in real life, not only what a person did something that make
us to be interesting, but they had shown us who they are, within their appearance, actions and
words.
In conclusion, I actually talking with using my movement and following my words that I
had say to other people, my actions can show to other people to know who I am. Sometime
people can judge me by the way that I had talked and my action, it can make the people get to
know my character. When I had shown other about my character I always think about it and tried
to remember what I had do and what I said to other people. Of cause character is important for
me to keep my quality and it is my preferences.
