Smart Overview
StreetSmart, an interactive trip advisor for com-
muters, is a proposed solution to streamline
the traffic in Bangalore City and provide Banga-
loreans with information and options for their
commuting problems. More often than not, due
to insufficient transit information, commuters
are unaware about transport facilities and ser-
vices available in the city and do not know of the
choices available to them. While commuters suf-
fer, the transport authorities too are at the losing
end since they are not able to run their services
at optimum levels. Thus, this service helps both
the involved stake holders – transport authorities
can spread information about their services while
commuters are able to make more informed
decisions, shorten times spent in traffic and
reduce anxiety and stress. This can further have
important implications for congestion relief in
transportation networks and lay the grounds for
better integration of various transport systems in
Bangalore.

Smart Technology Incorporated
StreetSmart is a Flash/Java based program, front
end provided for users on a cell phone that ties
itself to an informative and searchable server
based database & is powered by technology like
GPRS which is more likely to be found on many
cell phones. Real time tracking of cell phones
would be done by routing the incoming calls
through data sent to cell phone towers, triangu-
lating the phone’s position within a few hundred
yards; thus providing a more feasible option than
a GPS device.
StreetSmart can also be synchronized to Google
Calendars to send you SMS alerts of upcoming
events/ reminders, also providing solutions by
searching its database and offering transport
options. Information can also be shared between
people so that new places are being constantly
discovered and new options explored. In this
sense, StreetSmart is a social enabler that en-
courages communication between various people
in the community.

and displays the route map. She chooses to tag this for later reference. << >>

her location during the walk. This will help her walk in the right direction. << >>
