RIKUDIM
(Jan Van der Roost)
Composed in 1986 and inspired by Jewish dances, Rikudim is a four-movement
suite that is approximately nine minutes in duration. Van der Roost did not draw
on authentic folk melodies as source material for Rikudim, but rather composed
the piece in the style of Israeli folk dances. These four idiomatic movements
capture the both melancholy and optimistically festive characteristics of Jewish
dance music.
































  • 1. RIKUDIM (Jan Van der Roost) Composed in 1986 and inspired by Jewish dances, Rikudim is a four-movement suite that is approximately nine minutes in duration. Van der Roost did not draw on authentic folk melodies as source material for Rikudim, but rather composed the piece in the style of Israeli folk dances. These four idiomatic movements capture the both melancholy and optimistically festive characteristics of Jewish dance music.
